Aston Villa vs Man City: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Wednesday 21st April 2021
Kick off at 8:15pm BST
Venue: Villa Park

Match Preview:

It has been just 1 win in their past five games but Aston Villa who are currently in 11th could still go to 7th once they play their 2 games in hand that they have over many of their direct rivals. Dean Smith’s side lost their 12th game of the season last weekend as they were beaten 2-1 by Liverpool, and the Gods have not been kind to them fixture wise as they now face league leaders Manchester City.

The objective for Villa has to be to finish in a Europa League position and that would sum up a fantastic season for the club who were almost relegated last year. Recent home form though has been cause for concern for the club. True they did win their last home game when beating Fulham 3-1 but that was their first win in 3 games. A win in midweek would ensure that Villa would go past Leeds and into 10th place.

Manchester City may have one eye on the Carabao Cup final this weekend but knowing Pep Guardiola he will play his strongest team for this match. City will also have one eye on 2nd placed Manchester United who are 8 points behind with the same games played, and if City were to lose this game, one would have to wonder if the league is really done and dusted yet?

It’s rare for City to lose 2 games in a row and that would have to happen given that they were surprisingly defeated by Leeds in a 2-1 result last weekend. Still the good news for City is that they have the best away record in the league winning 11 games from 15 and losing just once. This includes conceding the least goals on the road with just 8 so far.

Team News:

Aston Villa: Jack Grealish looks set to miss another game due to his shin injury, he may face a late test though. Morgan Sanson will be assessed following his knee injury, Bertrand Traore had a rib injury but is being tipped to return. Wesley has fitness issues and looks set to miss this game.

Manchester City: Sergio Aguero will be assessed after his recent knock and is only 50/50. Kevin De Bruyne has been ruled out with an ankle injury.

Aston Villa vs Man City Head to Head:

In this fixture last season Manchester City won 6-1.

Earlier in the season Manchester City won 2-0.

Manchester City have won the last 4 league meetings in a row and Aston Villa haven’t won in the league against them since 2013.

There is a 50% chance to see over 3.5 goals.

Aston Villa vs Man City Prediction:

Expect to see Manchester City absolutely switched on for this game. There is a small chance they could blow the league if they lose this game and a club managed by Guardiola normally do not rest on their laurels, make no mistake this is a big game for them.

City will be missing Aguero and De Bruyne so we do not expect to see an overflow of goals like historically there has been and they will have to work hard for their win. Villa would dearly love to play European football next season and will have their chances in this game. But this is the title City are thinking about, and we expect them to get through this game. Phil Foden has really stepped up this season when his club have needed him and we wouldn’t be surprised if he was able to get himself on the score sheet. City are around 1.30 a price that won’t be to everyone’s liking so try the -1 asian handicap for better value with no extra risk.

Aston Villa vs Man City Betting Tips:

Asian handicap (-1 Man City) at 1.55

Anytime goalscorer: Phil Foden at 2.75
