Aston Villa vs Luton: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League
Sunday 29th October 2023
Kick off at 2pm GMT
Venue: Villa Park

Match Preview:

Aston Villa are on form and scoring goals and these are good time to be a fan. In midweek they destroyed AZ Alkmaar 4-1 away from home and last weekend they beat West Ham by the same scoreline. Unai Emery’s side have climbed up to 5th place and with 19 points they are just a point behind the top four. Villa have won six of their nine games so far and have scored 10 goals in their last two home games, they are looking like a side who need to be respected and possibly feared, especially as a home side. If you need more convincing of their credentials then currently Villa have the best home form in the league with a 100% record and they have by far scored the most goals at home with 17 so far.

Luton look like they will be in for a very tough afternoon and the Hatters come into this game in 17th place with 5 points and are already 14 points shy of their hosts. It’s just one win so far for the newly promoted side but the objective simply has to be to finish the season where they are, that would be some sort of success. Last weekend Luton who have lost six games already avoided that result and drew 2-2 away to Nottingham Forest which in some respects is one of their best results of the season, although they have beaten Everton earlier in the season, again that was away from home. Luton have gone their last two away games unbeaten but they are coming up against quality at the weekend and when they have faced Chelsea and Brighton in similar circumstances they lost 3-0 and 4-1 respectively.

Team News:

Aston Villa: There are no new injuries for the club but the following players remain out- Emiliano Buendia, Jacob Ramsey, Tyrone Mings and Alex Moreno.

Luton: Reece Burke will be assessed following a minor knock, Mads Andersen and Amarii Bell are both sidelined with no fixed return date. The trio of Jordan Clark, Daniel Potts and Albert Sambi Lokonga are all out and not due back for another month.

Aston Villa vs Luton Head to Head:

The clubs have not played at Villa Park since 2002 when they faced one another in the EFL Cup, Villa ran out 3-0 winners.

The latest meeting was in 2016 also in the EFL Cup, on that occasion Luton were at home and won 3-1.

Aston Villa vs Luton Prediction:

Whilst there are other head to head stats between the sides it would be a disservice to mention them here. In league game terms the teams haven’t played one another in 31 years and obviously so much has changed since then. We can go instead on the facts that Aston Villa are looking like a well oiled machine and have been so for a good 10 months. At home the Villains look strong enough for any side in the league and we don’t just expect a home win but one packed with goals too. To Luton’s credit while their defence isn’t strong it has held up better than one would have thought- for example Brighton have conceded more goals and while teams around them have shipped 20 plus goals Luton’s remains at 17. But this is going to be a tough fixture no matter how you look at it and we expect Villa to run off with this one. So do the bookies who have them up at 1.25, but to lead in with the ht/ft market should be the way to go.
