England Premier League
Sunday 8th December 2019
Kick off at 2pm GMT
Venue: Villa Park
Match Preview:
Aston Villa are just about showing enough life, which suggests they could stay up in the Premier league this season after being promoted from the Championship last season. However they are finding it hard to remain consistent and it wouldn’t be a surprise if they stay in the bottom 6 for much of the season.
In midweek they lost to Chelsea but put up a good fight and came away with a 2-1 loss. That ended a mini 2 game unbeaten spell for the club. They come into this game in 17th place with 15 points and should be reminded that only goal difference separates them from relegation. Villa have lost just one game at home from their past five.
Leicester have been nothing short of brilliant and come into this game in 2nd place. They have won their last 5 consecutive games and have won 11 of their 15 games so far. Indeed that could have been good enough in most seasons to be in first place, but then there is Liverpool and the Reds lead Leicester by 11 points after Saturday's win over Bournemouth. The Foxes overcame Watford 2-0 in midweek and are 3 points clear of champions Manchester City, which should tell you how far the club have come under Brendan Rodgers.
Who has the meanest defence in the Premier League? That is Leicester who have conceded just 9 goals all seasons. They have shipped just 1 goal in their past five games and are looking like a title winning side, well if it wasn’t for the exploits of Liverpool.
It is telling that Leicester have lost 2 games away from home and those were against Liverpool and Manchester United. The good news is that they have won their last 3 in a row and should be a force here.
Team News:
Aston Villa: Anwar El Ghazi should be able to return after his knee injury, but will face a late test
Leicester: Ben Chilwell is expected to be back for this game after missing the last match in midweek to a minor hip problem
Aston Villa vs Leicester Head to Head:
The teams have not played here since 2016 when the match finished 1-1.
Leicester have not won at Villa Park since 2007 although the clubs have only met 4 times here in that period.
In league matches, 3 of the last 4 has seen both teams to score.
Aston Villa vs Leicester Prediction:
Only a brave person would go against Leicester now. They are pumped full of confidence and they seem to have this belief that they can catch Liverpool. It is interesting being the surprise chasing team and gives the club a unique challenge and they just seem to be relishing that chance. However we could also argue that Aston Villa could be the perfect banana skin to slip up against and Leicester will have to be 100% focused on the win, but we will take Leicester for the win altough with some caution. What has been so impressive is that they are scoring goals and have the best defence, Rodgers seems to have struck upon a goldmine here, keep this up and talk of their 2016 league title will start resurfacing.
