Both clubs come into this game in poor form but it is only one that really needs a win here and that is Aston Villa.
Villa are in 19th and 7 points adrift of safety, lose this or lose more ground and that could be the final straw. At home they will be trying their best to win, though overall form has been poor where they have earned just 1 point from their last 15.
At home they have lost over 50% of their games and won just 35%, their last home victory was back in January and they come into this game knowing they have lost their last three games in a row. They have had some tough fixtures lately having to play Wolves, Chelsea, Liverpool and Man Utd, and it was against the Utd where they lost their last game going down 3-0.
Crystal Palace are in 14th and are very much safe on 42 points. They won’t realistically qualify for Europe next season although defeat here would confirm that and they come into this game having lost 4 in a row.
At times they have looked like a team that know they are safe and have switched off but then again they played well against Chelsea almost making a great comeback before eventually losing 3-2.

This will be a nervous game for the home side and their biggest and most important of the season so far. Dean Smith has to install the importance of this game upon his players, this is their world cup final if you like. Villa have enough in the tank to win this and Palace do not travel well here. Palace of course will be the more relaxed of the two and that could be dangerous for Villa.
If Villa play like they have then they have no chance to win the game, but we will opt for the home side to get something from this game, where the club can give themselves a chance of survival and the odds for this match should be fairly open.
