Aston Villa vs Chelsea: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League
Sunday 16th October 2022
Kick off at 2pm BST
Venue: Villa Park

Match Preview:

Aston Villa have improved over the past month and are unbeaten in their last 4 games. But it feels that the critics are still out and that could be down to the fact that Villa have only won once in that period of time. Just Before then pressure was mounting on manager Steven Gerrard but the good run kicked in against Manchester City with a 1-1 draw and we would have to go back to the end of August for the clubs last defeat. Having said that fans would have expected a better result against Nottingham Forest which was Villa’s last game with that one ending 1-1, and now they will face one of the stronger teams and be the underdogs to get anything in the game.

Gerrard’s side are in 16th place and just 3 points from the bottom three, then again with the season being so early they are the same number of points away from the top 10. Home form so far has been generally good with 7 points won from a possible 12 and with just one defeat which came against West Ham. The clubs last home game ended in a 1-0 win over Southampton.

Graham Potter is getting his feet well and under the furniture now and the Blues are getting results. Potter is unbeaten as Chelsea manager and has won two in a row beating Crystal Palace and Wolves. In the Champions League they have just beaten Italian giants AC Milan both home and away and the club represent an interesting challenge to the likes of Arsenal and Manchester City this season. Potter’s side are in 4th place with 16 points though they have played a game less than the top 3.

Team News:

Aston Villa: Ludwig Augustinsson is out with a hamstring injury but could be back by the end of the month. Lucas Digne misses out again due to his heel injury and is expected back in two weeks. Diego Carlos is out long term with an Achilles injury.

Chelsea: Hakim Ziyech will be assessed as he was ill earlier this week, Wesley Fofana is out until the end of the year with a knee injury. Reece James is out with a knee injury with no fixed return date. N’Golo Kante has an on going hamstring injury.

Aston Villa vs Chelsea Head to Head:

Last season Chelsea won this fixture 3-1.

Chelsea have won the last 3 meetings in a row and won 14 from the last 17 meetings.

There is a 70% chance to see both teams to score.

Aston Villa vs Chelsea Prediction:

Chelsea have the better team and all being correct they should come back to London with all three points. However it has been evident with Steven Gerrard in charge that Villa really up their game when facing the bigger sides and Villa will try to set up in a way to frustrate Potter’s team. But we expect Chelsea to be just too strong for Villa even away from home and there is a good confidence about the side who are never afraid to come forward. Despite some key injuries there is still a lot of quality in the team and they have so many options for goals all over the side. They are chasing at the moment and can’t really afford slips with Arsenal and Manchester City being so consistent.

One player who looks confident and on fire is Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and he should be backed to score in this game, his career looks refreshed at Stamford Bridge and he is scoring goals again. Some of the value here seems very good, not only for a Chelsea win but for a goal from Aubameyang and both teams to score is slightly odds on but with a 70% return normally we could have expected 1.62 on this and yet for now we have 1.91, so get on that.

Aston Villa vs Chelsea Betting Tips:

Chelsea to beat Aston Villa at 1.80

Anytime goalscorer: Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang at 2.75

Both teams to score at 1.91
