Match Preview:

Is this the beginning of the drop off for Aston Villa or are we just seeing a minor blip? Aston Villa have really set the cat amongst the pigeons this season with being in 3rd place at the halfway point of the season. They remain unbeaten at home and have been a brilliant outfit, still are the cracks starting to show? Witness their last home game where they played bottom side Sheffield United- the game finished 1-1 but everyone expected a rout. Even a draw was incredible for Villa given that they were losing the match in the 97th minute. Then followed a 3-2 loss at Manchester United, another disappointing result given how average United have been this season. You can multiply that given that Villa were two goals up within the first 25 minutes and seemingly cruising. Granted United were at home and had the players to turn a game round but it must have been worrying for manager Unai Emery to witness his side implode at the same time. Focus then is needed again as they take on the team in 19th place.

Burnley lost 2-0 in their last game against Liverpool and they won’t mind too much about that. Realistically they had little chance of getting anything from the game and they have to swiftly move on from that and be thankful the score wasn’t bigger. Vincent Kompany’s side are five points from safety and even a surprise win here would keep them in 19th place. However they did win their last away game by beating Fulham 2-0 and at the beginning of the month surprised Brighton with a 1-1 draw. Certainly Burnley have improved over the past few weeks but you get the sense that if they do not start games well they tend to collapse quickly and will certainly be the underdogs to get anything from this game.

Aston Villa vs Burnley Prediction:

There will be some concern that it took a 97th minute goal in their last game against the bottom side to salvage a draw. This from a team who had recently beaten Manchester City and Arsenal at the same ground. Indeed a few weeks ago we would be 100% confident to say home victory, but after picking up 1 point from their last two games there should be a little more trepidation. The market does not feel that same way and Aston Villa can be backed at 1.30 for the win. We think this holds no value whatsoever. At the same time we believe that Villa can win this game of course but Emery will have a job on his hands to get his side back on track and this may not be plain sailing, but this is a fixture where different markets should be looked into. If Villa can come out here and get the desired result trust can be reinstalled but after their last two games backing a side at 1.30 makes no sense at all.
