England Premier League
Saturday 28th September 2019
Kick off at 3pm BST
Venue: Villa Park
Match Preview:
Oh Villa! How they will be kicking themselves after last weekend’s loss to Arsenal. The club were 2-1 up at the Emirates and playing against 10 men and still lost. Despite playing some of their best football this season Dean Smith’s side recorded their 4th loss of the season and going into this game they have 1 win and are in 18th place.
At home Villa have played 3 games, losing to Bournemouth but beating established teams like Everton and drawing against West Ham. But unless they find another gear the signs already look ominous that this could be a season wrapped up in a relegation dog fight.
In midweek Villa beat fellow Premier League team Brighton 3-1 away from home in the Carabao Cup to move into the 4th round.
Burnley have amassed double the points of their hosts with 8 and are in 9th place. Yet Sean Dyche’s team have only won 1 game this season, which was their last match with a victory over Norwich. The club have drawn two of their three away matches, losing only and narrowly to Arsenal 2-1. What the manager will be impressed with is that they have a positive goal difference of +1 and have scored 8 goals so far, goals win you games and when they don’t they still can install some confidence within the team and by and large given their resources this hasn’t been a bad start for the club.
Team News:
Aston Villa: James Chester is still out with fitness issues and won’t be back until October. Henri Lansbury has an ankle injury he picked up last weekend but it is thought to be just minor and he could be included in the squad. Jonathan Kodija is still recovering from his head injury and is not due back for another 3-4 weeks
Burnley: A late decision will be taken on Gundmundsson who has been out for a few weeks with a calf injury. Daniel Drinkwater isn’t due back for another 3 weeks. Jeff Hendrik should return after a minor knock
Aston Villa vs Burnley Head to Head:
The last time the teams played was at Villa Park but back in 2015 when Burnley won 1-0.
In recent league games only there is a 75% chance to see under 2.5 goals.
In the last 6 meeting Burnley have just one victory, which was the last one.
Aston Villa vs Burnley Prediction:
We are backing Aston Villa to get something from this match. The result in midweek even if there were some changes to both sides would have been a massive boost for Dean Smith and his team. That is was against a Premier League side in Brighton just puts the icing on the cake. Villa have played some decent football and they just need some luck to go with that, at home against a team that they historically do well against we think they can bag some points.
Burnley have only lost 1 game in the last four, but they are already racking up some draws and it is questionable how strong the side will be on the road. We will also back both teams to score as Villa are finding it hard to keep clean sheets, with 9 conceded already.
