England Premier League
Thursday 17th December 2020
Kick off at 6pm GMT
Venue: Villa Park
Match Preview:
Aston Villa have dropped down to 11th place but there won’t be much concern at the club at this moment because they have 2 games in hand on most of the clubs above them, in theory had they played those matches and won they would be in 2nd place.
So there is a lot for Villa to play for here and being at home against Burnley they will be expected to win. However one aspect of Villa’s game that has let them down has been their inconsistency, although it seems to be affecting almost every other club in the league.
Dean Smith’s side got a very important win away to Wolves in their last game and that stopped a 2 game losing run and just reminded everyone that there is much more to see from Villa who have been hugely improved over last season. Oddly though their home form is not good and they have lost 60% of their games here which includes losing their last 3 in a row.
Burnley are in 17th which could feel like 1st place by May, but for now they are sitting too close to the edge. However form has really improved over the last month and they have lost just one game in their last five, which was away to Manchester City and quite understandable. But Sean Dyche’s team have pulled off some good results, 1-1 v Everton and they beat Arsenal 1-0 away from home last weekend, which was seen as a major surprise despite the poor current form of the Gunners.
On the road Burnley have lost 50% of their matches but have picked up 5 points from their last 12, which for them this season is a good standard as they look to push away from the bottom three clubs.
Team News:
Aston Villa: Ross Barkley will face an assessment and could return after his hamstring injury. Matthew Cash is suspended for this game after picking up his fifth yellow of the season. Douglas Luiz is suspended after his red card last weekend. Trezeguet has a hamstring injury and has been ruled out of this match.
Burnley: Phillip Bardsley will once again face a test to see if he can come back after a lack of match fitness. Dale Stephens could return after fitness issues.
Aston Villa vs Burnley Head to Head:
Last season this fixture ended 2-2.
Six of their last seven fixtures has seen both teams to score.
Aston Villa have not beaten Burnley at home since 2010 but the clubs have only met 3 times here in that period.
Aston Villa vs Burnley Prediction:
These are the games that will make a difference in Aston Villa’s season, it isn’t beating Liverpool 7-2 which was unique but these type of matches where points are expected but can easily be dropped.
With teams at the top drawing far too many matches it has given clubs like Villa a chance to make an impact if they can get a few wins under their belt.
Our tip here is to see Villa get the home victory and we will also back Jack Grealish to run the show and get back on the score sheet. With Burnley you never know what they are going to produce and in just beating Arsenal the side should come here with some confidence, so we will also back both teams to score.
Aston Villa vs Burnley Betting Tips:
Aston Villa to beat Burnley at 1.72
Anytime goalscorer: Jack Grealish at 3.00
Both teams to score at 1.72
