Aston Villa vs Brighton: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League
Saturday 30th September 2023
Kick off at 12:30pm BST
Venue: Villa Park

Match Preview:

Perhaps it’s how you read into a situation because Aston Villa have lost two games from their first six and conceded 8 goals in that time. However, here is the catch: Aston Villa have started the season well. Unai Emery’s side have won 4 games and come into this weekend in 6th place just two points behind Arsenal and Tottenham for a top four finish so it hasn’t been all bad.

Aston Villa are currently on a two game winning run having beaten Crystal Palace and Chelsea away from home last weekend. Villa look like a dangerous side especially at home but this looks to be a very good match up between two sides who pound for pound have to be ranked amongst the best in the league. There was disappointment in midweek as Villa were knocked out of the EFL Cup by Everton after losing at home 2-1.

Brighton just keep surprising, despite selling some quality this year and losing players to teams in the same league they have a very good outlook and after six games they are in 3rd place with 15 points. It’s five wins so far and just one defeat which came against West Ham, but the Seagulls are on a three game winning run. They have beaten Newcastle, Manchester United and Bournemouth in that time and are scoring goals. So far Roberto De Zerbi’s side have won both games away from home with the win over the Cherries as mentioned above and a 4-1 hammering of Wolves earlier in the season. It’s been a good start to the campaign for the Seagulls however they were knocked out of the EFL Cup in midweek losing 1-0 away to Chelsea.

Team News:

Aston Villa: Leon Bailey remains a doubt and is just 50/50 to return for this game following a muscle injury. Jacob Ramsey is expected to recover from a recent knock. Alex Moreno may return from a hamstring injury and will be assessed. Tyrone Mings, Diego Carlos and Emiliano Buendia are all sidelined and out long term.

Brighton: Evan Ferguson should be back for this game following illness. Pascal Grob is out for between 3-4 weeks with a muscle injury; it is the same situation for James Milner.

Aston Villa vs Brighton Head to Head:

Aston Villa have managed to win the last 4 meetings in a row.

It’s been almost 3 years since Brighton managed to beat Aston Villa away from home.

There is a 70% chance to see both teams to score.

Aston Villa vs Brighton Prediction:

The lunch time kick off to kickstart another weekend of Premier League football should be one to watch. Villa and Brighton are equally matched so the temptation would be back to the home side in this case Aston Villa. We should see a good attitude, intelligent play and we also expect to see goals. This fixture doesn’t have a huge amount of them but we have seen a good return rate to see both teams to score so that will be a market that we will be backing.

Aston Villa have a very good recent record over Brighton and although they have a tough opponent on their hands we have to respect them for what we have seen so far. Villa may well struggle against the very best sides away from home but Emery is making Villa Park a very difficult place to visit. We will also back Ollie Watkins to keep up his good form, he was the difference in the end when Villa beat Chelsea last weekend and has started the season well.
