England Premier League
Saturday 28th August 2021
Kick off at 3pm BST
Venue: Villa Park
Match Preview:
Aston Villa got back to winning ways last weekend as they beat Newcastle at home 2-0. Up to that point both clubs were coming into that game having lost on the opening weekend so it was an important match.
Villa had been rattled by league newcomers Watford on the opening weekend but their victory over the Magpies would have erased that one out. What has been equally important as getting their first win of the season has been the form of new signing Danny Ings who is banging in the goals. Villa will be expected to win this game and will be happy to have remained at home
In midweek Dean Smith’s side inevitably had no trouble in beating non league side Barrow in the EFL Cup winning that match 6-0 away from home.
For Brentford it is two league games played and unbeaten. They stunned Arsenal on the opening day of the season and then drew 0-0 away to Crystal Palace in a respectable result for the club.
This won’t be an easy game for Brentford but at the end of the day they still have not conceded in the league. In midweek they knocked out Forest Green by 3-1 in the EFL Cup.
Team News:
Aston Villa: Leon Bailey will be assessed due to his hamstring. Morgan Sanson has a lack of match fitness and will be assessed. Bertrand Traore is out for at least the next 2 weeks due to a pre-season hamstring injury. Ollie Watkins is only 50/50 to make this game because of a knee injury.
Brentford: Shandon Baptiste has an ankle injury and is still a major doubt to be ready for this game. Mads Bech-Sorensen has a knee injury but could be assessed for this game. Charlie Goode has a knock though it is thought to be minor.
Aston Villa vs Brentford Head to Head:
The last time the teams played at Villa Park was in 2018 and that match finished 2-2.
Brentford have not beaten Aston Villa since 1953.
The last time the clubs met in the top flight was in 1947 and in this fixture Aston Villa won 5-2.
Aston Villa vs Brentford Prediction:
Brentford might be facing Aston Villa at the right time as teams just get back into the swing of things but make no mistake this will be a difficult match for the away side. The advantage that Villa has is remaining at home for two games in a row and because they won their last they will be in good spirits and will not feel too much pressure.
Of course not much is expected of Brentford here and they will be able to try and enjoy themselves. With newly-promoted teams the fear any manager and fans have is that they will lose by a large margin which could affect confidence, but the club have done extremely well so far. They will also know how vital it is to pick up points early in the season.
We think we will see a very entertaining game and our choice will be for Villa to be too strong for their opponents in the end. Danny Ings is on absolute great form and has really fitted into the club well and it would be worth backing the forward to get on the score sheet yet again at the weekend.
