Aston Villa vs Brentford: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League
Saturday 6th April 2024
Kick off at 3pm BST
Venue: Villa Park

Match Preview:

Make no mistake Aston Villa had Manchester City in trouble in midweek and not many clubs who go behind at the Etihad are able to come back and threaten. Villa finally came up against an inform Phil Foden and they eventually lost 4-1 but there were still many positives to be taken about a club who look like they will qualify for next season's Champions League. Fifth place looks secure for the UEFA coefficient rankings system for England and therefore Villa has an 11 point cushion over 6th place. They may well still finish 4th which would be a terrific achievement and currently lead 5th placed Tottenham by 2 points.

Form needs to improve for Unai Emery’s side though who have only won once in their past four games with recent results witnessing a draw over West Ham and a heavy loss to Tottenham but they did beat an in-form Wolves side at home. Home is key for Villa who have 11 wins from 15 games and while recent home form has taken a setback they have won 2 of their last three games at Villa Park.

Brentford are in 15th place and have 28 points and are six clear of the bottom three. Their form has nosedived in the last six weeks and forward Ivan Toney hasn’t been on his A game, the club has managed just 3 points from their last 15 and there is a danger of relegation. Their record away from home does not bode well coming here with 11 defeats from 15 and that includes 4 straight away losses in a row. Brentford’s last away win came against Wolves almost two months ago.

Team News:

Aston Villa: Matthew Cash is two weeks away from a return with his hamstring, Emiliano Martinez was ill but he is being tipped to return for this game. Ollie Watkins should return after missing the Manchester City game through a minor hamstring injury. Boubacar Kamara, Jacob Ramsey, Tyrone Mings and Emiliano Buendia are all out long term and all look likely to miss the rest of the season

Brentford: Kevin Schade is in line to return after a lengthy time out and will be assessed. This game looks like coming too early for Ethan Pinnock who still has an ankle injury but could be back as early as next week. Christian Norgaard, Ben Mee, Rico Henry, Aaron Hickey and Joshua Dasilva are all out long term

Aston Villa vs Brentford Prediction:

Aston Villa are odds on but still a decent price and we believe at 1.70 they should be snapped up, indeed they may be the best choice overall for a win for a home side this weekend. Villa still look strong and while consistency at home has suffered recently there will be a drive and motivation to keep Tottenham behind them. Villa have had some very positive results over Brentford and right now the Bees look to have lost their sting- they look lost, but they need another two quick wins to feel safe and if that happens we don’t believe the turnaround is coming away from home and not at a difficult place like Villa Park- the home win all the way for us.
