Arsenal vs Wolves: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League
Thursday 24th February 2022
Kick off at 7:45pm GMT
Venue: Emirates Stadium

Match Preview:

Such has been the affected fixture list this season because of the pandemic these two clubs are playing each other again only two weeks apart. Arsenal got the better of Wolves earlier in the month winning 1-0 despite ending the game with 10 men. It was a huge win for Mikel Arteta’s side and whoever wins this game it will feel even bigger.

The reason is because both sides have a genuine chance to finish 4th this season. Arsenal are in 6th place and Wolves are in 7th but have games in hand over 4th placed Manchester United. The Gunners are in good form and come into this fixture unbeaten in their last 3 games, that includes winning their last two in a row. Mikel Arteta’s side get to stay at home after beating Brentford 2-1 and even though the score line looks close Arsenal were in control of that game. The club is four points behind Manchester United in fourth but has 3 games in hand over them, this is one of them so they have to make it count.

Arsenal have lost seven games this season but only 2 of those have occurred at home. Indeed the Gunners have the 3rd best home record in the league and with just 9 goals conceded at home only Liverpool have a better record.

Wolves are the surprise package and this is a season where under new manager Bruno Lage the club were expected to have a transitional campaign but instead they are aiming high already. For many weeks it looked like West Ham would be the club to mix it up with the bigger teams for 4th but in the last few weeks Wolves has emerged as that team with four wins from their last five games they are six points behind 4th place but have 2 games in hand.

It’s just one defeat this year for Wolves which of course came against Arsenal and victory here would take the club past Arsenal and West Ham and into 5th. Wolves last game finished in a 2-1 victory over Leicester. Away form is superb with 4 wins in a row and their last away game ended with a 2-0 victory over Arsenal’s north London rivals Tottenham.

Team News:

Arsenal: The Gunners have no injuries to the first team ahead of this game.

Wolves: The club have no injuries to report coming into this meeting.

There hasn’t been a 0-0 result in this fixture since 1975.

Arsenal vs Wolves Prediction:

Here we have two teams who are in the top six form sides in the Premier League but it is the outsiders for this game that are the 2nd best team in form currently. With their recent defeat in the reverse fixture one could presume that Wolves will be after revenge over Arsenal, but the club will have to keep to their tactics to have any chance here. Arsenal certainly has the better squad and will be fired up at home but Wolves must be respected.

We will back the Gunners for the win though, they have been too impressive at home and Arteta will be expected to pack out the midfield and play one up front. Alexandre Lacazette has been criticised lately even by his own fans but Lacazette plays an important role in opening up the game for Arsenal’s wingers. We expect to see a fast paced game but if the home side can play as half good as they did at Wolves a few weeks back and with the home crowd in support Arsenal can start to make real progression for a top 4 place and put the pressure on Manchester United.
