Arsenal vs Wolves: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League
Saturday 2nd December 2023
Kick off at 3pm GMT
Venue: Emirates Stadium

Match Preview:

The Premier League is welcoming the month of December and Mikel Arteta will be a very pleased man to see that his team Arsenal head into the month in 1st place. After the Gunners title charge last season imploded he will be determined to see his side put it right this time and answer his critics. The good news is topping the table, the bad news is that the club could be in 4th place if they were to lose at the weekend. It is very close up at the top with just two points separating the top four sides.

Arsenal have dropped points in the last month but have won their last two games coming into this one with victories over Burnley and Brentford. At home the Gunners are unbeaten after seven games with five wins and two draws and they have won their last 3 in a row here at home. They have managed 8 goals at home in their last two games and it wouldn’t even be a surprise if they were able to go the season unbeaten at home. In Europe in midweek Arteta’s side cruised to a 6-0 win over Ligue 1 side Lens and these are good times for them.

Wolves lost on Monday evening 3-2 away to Fulham and that was their 6th loss of the season and it means that the club have only won once in their last four games. That victory came against Tottenham but in general the worry is that after a slow start Wolves are going to find these winter months tough. They are in 12th place, have 15 points, are well on course to survive this season and are 10 points ahead of the relegation zone. It’s been six weeks since they last recorded an away win, which came against Bournemouth and they have lost their last two away games in row. Overall so far they have lost 60% of matches on the road.

Team News:

Arsenal: Fabio Vieira is currently suspended and isn’t due back until next week. Emile Smith-Rowe is recovering from a knee injury and is near a return but this game is expected to come too soon for him. Thomas Partey and Jurrien Timber remain out with no fixed return date with respective muscle and knee injuries.

Wolves: Joao Gomes and Mario Lemina are both suspended for this game after respectively picking up their fifth yellow cards of the season. Rayan Ait-Nouri will be assessed following an ankle injury he picked up last weekend. Pedro Neto is just 50/50 to return after a hamstring injury and Nathan Fraser and Joseph Hodge both remain out until the new year.

Arsenal vs Wolves Head to Head:

Last season Arsenal won this fixture 5-0.

Arsenal have won the last four meetings in a row.

There is a 60% chance to see both teams to score.

Arsenal vs Wolves Prediction:

It would feel like a shock if Arsenal were to drop points at home this weekend and we expect them to have few worries against a side that have been very average on the road so far. Wolves can pack a punch at home just ask Manchester City or Tottenham but on the road and facing one of the best teams in the league we expect an easy home victory. The bookmakers are on the same page and the Gunners are 1.25 to win this and lower. To make value of an Arsenal victory it would make sense to back the ht/ft market and we expect a few goals from them also.

Wolves have had some joy at the Emirates and given the Gunners a scare over the past decade with some results but form is not good and they will be missing two key players through injury. Arsenal are top of the standings, they have all the motivation to start positively and win this match and remain in that position and few around the country are going to predict any other result than a home win.
