Venue: Emirates Stadium
Match Preview:
What a week it has been for the Gunners! Dominated in large parts by club captain Granit Xhaka who was displeased at being substituted last weekend. He was booed and jeered by his own fans and then appeared to swear at them and there is now friction between him and the fans.
This all happened in the game v Crystal Palace where at the Emirates Arsenal had taken a 2-0 lead and it looked like one of those days where Arsenal would run riot and win 5-0. But Palace came back into the game and it ended 2-2, even though Arsenal had what looked like a good goal ruled out by VAR. That disappointing draw followed a loss at Sheffield United to add to the clubs woes, and then there was the Carabao Cup game at Anfield in midweek….
With a lot of changes made to both sets of sides we saw a terrific thriller in Liverpool where the game finished an incredible 5-5 and the Reds went on to win on penalties, Arsenal are out of the Carabao Cup. It was another disappointing game for Unai Emery’s men given that they were 3-1 up and then 4-2 up, and really shows the difference in mental toughness between the two teams.
Arsenal come into this game in 5th place but are under pressure to keep that position if they drop points here. They have just one win in their past four games but at home are much stronger and remain unbeaten so far this season.
Wolves are in 12th position and yet a win would put them just one point behind their hosts. They are unbeaten in their last five games, though 3 of those matches have been draws which includes their last two games. They have lost just once on the road which was in a 3-2 defeat at the hands of Everton and they have beaten Manchester City and drawn to Leicester so they remain quite a threat.
Team News:
Arsenal: The Gunners only have one doubt coming into this game which is a slight knock for Sead Kolasinac, but he is expected to be fine
Wolves: Wily Boly is a big blow for the club and will be out for some time after breaking his ankle. Morgan Gibbs-White is expected to be assessed after missing the last two games because of a back injury
Arsenal vs Wolves Head to Head:
Last season this match finished 1-1.
Arsenal has just 1 victory over Wolves in the last 4 meetings.
Wolves have just 1 victory over Arsenal in the last 10 meetings.
There is a 70% chance to see under 2.5 goals.
Arsenal vs Wolves Prediction:
Will Xhaka play after last weekend or be rested again like he was in the Carabao Cup? Perhaps it is time to just play the Swiss player after his club statement. This is an open game and Arsenal will feel that they should have beaten Palace if it wasn’t for VAR, so they should be hungry for the win. If the team can be united, which is what one would expect they have the quality to win this game.
Wolves remain a slight enigma this season, where you don’t quite know what you will get from them. If the opposing team can control the pace it can put them in trouble, so we will side with a home win, but it could be a very close game.
