Arsenal vs West Ham: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League
Wednesday 15th December 2021
Kick off at 8pm GMT
Venue: Emirates Stadium

Match Preview:

The big news surrounding Arsenal in the build up to this match has been star striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang who was first dropped in the Gunners last game against Southampton for a breach of the rules. Now Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has stripped Aubameyang of his captaincy.

It isn't quite clear what Aubameyang has done but it has certainly borne the wrath of Arteta and now there will be questions over the strikers future with the club. Could he even leave before next summer, even though of course he only signed a contract last year? Arsenal may feel that they don't have to rely on Aubameyang's goals anymore too, and the immediate future for the player does not look good at the Gunners.

Back to the on the field activities and Arsenal bounced back from their 2-1 loss at Everton to easily sweep aside Southampton at the Emirates with a 3-0 win. The victory was also Arsenal's first since the end of November and they come into this game in 6th place and just one behind Manchester United.

West Ham are in fourth place and have done so well but all of the pressure remains on the club to try and keep that place. One of their biggest rivals of course will be Arsenal so this would be a huge result if they were able to beat them. The Hammers could only draw 0-0 at Burnley which clearly was not a good result for them at the weekend.

Team News:

Arsenal: Sead Kolasinac is out for another month with his on going ankle injury. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is expected to miss this game because of his disiplinary action with the club.

West Ham: Ben Johnson is out with his hamstring, Aaron Cresswell is expected to miss out with his back injury but could be assessed but is more likely good to return for the weekend at the earliest. Angelo Ogbonna is out long term with his knee.

Arsenal vs West Ham Prediction:

This game has the potentinal to be electric from the start and should be played at a fast pace. There is no love lost between these two London rivals. Arsenal have enjoyed a lot of success over the Hammers throughout the years with odd moments of glory for West Ham.

There really isn't much between the sides as they go into this huge clash and one feels that the Hammers are going to give Arsenal a very hard game. A question mark does remain over David Moyes side away from home and even though this match is just a short trip for them a packed out Emiates stadium will be waiting.

We expect both sides to share the spoils here and that is why backing the goals markets could be the safest bet. There has been recent goals in this fixture and we're unlikely to see a cagey game in midweek.
