Arsenal vs Tottenham: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Sunday 2nd December 2018
Kick off at 2:05pm GMT
Venue: Emirates Stadium

Match Preview:

This match up of the great North London derby rivals will be the first for Arsenal not to be overseen by Arsene Wenger since 1995. And it will be an intriguing match to witness as Tottenham try to lay claim to the fact that they have overtaken their eternal nemesis.

Arsenal under Unai Emery have had a solid start to the season and have at times looked very impressive and certainly thrown off the ghost of Wenger. In that way Emery has done a fantastic job, and yet the Gunners are still 5th in the league but it is early days.

The good news is that they haven’t lost a game since August and a win here could take them up to 3rd depending on other results. Arsenal are also doing well in the Europa League and it is clear this is a good moment for the club. They have drawn their last two games at home though and will want to get back on the winning trail.

The only newsworthy problem for the Gunners is the on going saga between Emery and play maker Mesut Ozil, with Emery dropping Ozil for certain games. Will he play on Sunday?

Tottenham got a massive result last weekend in beating Chelsea 3-1. They are in 3rd place now and 3 points clear of Arsenal. Form is good with 3 wins in a row and in midweek they kept their Champions League hopes alive by beating Inter Milan at Wembley 1-0.

Spurs have won 4 games from their last 5 and away from home they have the best record in the league with 7 wins from 8 games, losing just one game against Watford. This Tottenham side have become very well organised and consistent something that couldn’t be said about past sides.

Team News:

Arsenal: Alexandre Lacazette is back in training after his groin injury and could make the squad though there is no confirmation as yet. Nacho Monreal will miss the game and Danny Welbeck is out for the rest of the year with an ankle injury

Tottenham: Erik Lamela will be assessed for this game after a thigh injury v Inter Milan. Kieran Trippier is set to miss the game with a groin injury

Arsenal vs Tottenham Head to Head:

Tottenham have not beaten Arsenal away from home since 2010.

Last season Arsenal won 2-0.

The last 3 meetings have seen just one team score.

Arsenal vs Tottenham Prediction:

Arsenal will have to be at their very best to win the game but they have the quality to do so at home. They have already held Liverpool here and might have got a decent result over Manchester City if it wasn’t the first game of the season. The Gunners are up and running now and Tottenham also have to think about the Barcelona game even if it is in 10 days time. If Tottenham can get something from this game they deserve a lot of respect but Arsenal can just about edge it.
