Arsenal vs Newcastle: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League
Tuesday 3rd January 2023
Kick off at 7:45pm GMT
Venue: Emirates Stadium

Match Preview:

The main story of the Premier League season so far has been Arsenal’s surprise lead at the top. Many believed it would be another battle between Manchester City and Liverpool as for Arsenal they were going to do well to get fourth. But here they are in 1st place and not just that, they now have a healthy lead. Mikel Arteta’s side are 7 points in front of the current champions Manchester City and are showing no signs of letting up.

This game will be a huge test for the Gunners given how well Newcastle have performed but it will take a brave person not to back the home win. The reason is Arsenal’s home form which stands at a 100% win rate. They have scored 11 goals in their last three games and their last win here came against West Ham. At the weekend they beat Brighton 4-2 away from home and look unstoppable at this time.

Newcastle dropped two points at home as they could only draw 0-0 against Leeds in what was a setback for the Magpies who have been superb this season. Like Arsenal they have only lost once so far and they are in 3rd place with 34 points. Eddie Howe’s side have the 3rd best away record after winning 15 points from a possible 24 and current away form is solid with 3 wins from their last three games. In those games they have scored 9 goals and overall they have conceded just six on their away trips.

Team News:

Arsenal: Reiss Nelson (muscle) and Gabriel Jesus (knee) are out for a month. Emile Smith-Rowe will be assessed due to a lack of match fitness.

Newcastle: Alexander Isak is still sidelined with a thigh injury but should be back in 10 days. Jonjo Shelvey looks to be out for between 4-5 weeks due to a calf injury. Matt Targett has a heel injury with no fixed return date.

Arsenal vs Newcastle Head to Head:

Last season Arsenal won this fixture 2-0.

Newcastle has just 1 win from the last 9 meetings however it happened in the last game the teams played at Newcastle back in May.

Newcastle haven’t beaten Arsenal away from home since 2010.

The last 3 games have all seen under 2.5 goals.

Arsenal vs Newcastle Prediction:

This game has all of the potential to be a fiery end to end classic. Arsenal at home will give no quarter and they could go 10 points clear with a win here. Newcastle have been very solid and are a difficult team to beat but they will be up against possibly the quickest side in the Premier League and with their home fans behind them we can’t look past the Gunners. But Newcastle will have to be respected but they will also come into this game, which involves a long trip down not feeling their best after drawing 0-0 with Leeds and that ended a brilliant winning streak.

We are sure to see both sides scoring here and so should ignore the recent history of low goals. Both teams have many goals in them and we expect a lot of shots on goal, this game doesn’t come across like it will be an edgy 1-0 to either side so we should be backing over goals.

Arsenal vs Newcastle Betting Tips:

Arsenal to beat Newcastle at 1.80

Over 2.5 goals at 1.80

Both teams to score at 1.72

Anytime goalscorer: Bukayo Saka at 3.00
