England Premier League
Sunday 3rd September 2023
Kick off at 4:30pm BST
Venue: Emirates Stadium
Match Preview:
The big game of the weekend will be between these two heavyweight clubs who have suffered setbacks in the last decade but still ooze quality and can put on a great game. Arsenal will be looking to bounce back from last weekend when they drew 2-2 at home to Fulham. It was a surprise result given that the Gunners had come back from a goal down to go 2-1 up, but that is the Premier League for you it is never quite over. Dropping points at home when your title challenger is Manchester City is a tough one to deal with and one would feel that Mikel Arteta’s side cannot repeat what happened here last weekend. Other than the draw Arsenal have started the season well with wins over Nottingham Forest and Crystal Palace although that would have been expected.
Manchester United have started well without playing great football and they have beaten Wolves 1-0 and Nottingham Forest 3-2. The Forest victory was heading for a defeat at home as United found themselves 2-0 down early on but they did show good mentality to get back into the game and eventually win it. What may be playing on their mind is their last visit to north London just a few weeks ago when they faced Tottenham and were soundly beaten 2-0, and this Arsenal side possess more attacking options and quality than their rivals.
Team News:
Arsenal: Jurrien Timber and Mohamed Elneny are both out with knee injuries with no fixed return date.
Manchester United: Amad Diallo isn’t expected back for two weeks due to an ongoing knee injury. Tyrell Malacia is due to sit out until after the international break due to a knock, it is the same case for Mason Mount. Luke Shaw is out for an extended period with a muscle injury and Raphael Varane is out for at least 3 weeks with a knock.
Arsenal vs Man Utd Head to Head:
Last season Arsenal won this fixture 3-2.
It’s been almost 6 years since Manchester United beat Arsenal away from home in the league.
The last 4 meetings have all seen over 3.5 goals.
In the last 20 games between the clubs only 1 game has finished 0-0.
Arsenal vs Man Utd Prediction:
Both clubs have won games this season but haven’t shown their potential as of yet which won’t be a major concern, both managers will know that it is only a matter of time before they click and we should see better football from them. Arsenal have looked just about the more convincing side though and perhaps United are lucky to have six points so far.
Arsenal should be able to boss the game in midfield as we witnessed Tottenham do so a few weeks ago, and perhaps the draw against Fulham was a good wake up call for the Gunners that no game can be taken lightly. A good attacking Arsenal side can beat anyone at the Emirates and they will need to be more aggressive at home and dynamic. Goals are lacking from the Gunners which isn’t normal but again we think this is just a blip and they will soon be at their best. Gabriel Jesus, ever so dangerous, is back from injury and he will be another threat. Of course United are not without their own threats but have simply not been convincing enough for us to back them in an away game.
