These two greats clubs will go head to head on New Years Day in what promises to be a classic match.
Arsenal really need the win as new manager Mikel Arteta has already stumbled. A draw in his first game against Bournemouth and then a dramatic loss against Chelsea in his first home game in charge losing 2-1 after being 1-0 up with five minutes to go.
Arteta will already be feeling the pressure and if Arsenal go on to lose this match questions will be raised if anything has really changed at the club this season despite having 3 different people in charge at various points.
The Gunners come into this game in unfamiliar territory in 12th place and are 3 points adrift of the top half of the table. They are 11 points from 4th and playing in next seasons Champions League looks all but ruled out unless they win the Europa League. The club have just 1 win in their last 16 matches and are six points from the bottom three. At home they have lost their last 3 matches in a row, which is so unlike Arsenal but this season has clearly been a new low for them. From a possible 30 points at home they have won just 13.
Manchester United have found their form and only a recent surprise loss to Watford has tarnished their recent record. Otherwise the club have earned 10 points from their last five games and they would be in 4th place on form alone. They have climbed to 5th and are 4 points behind Chelsea which is going to end up being an epic battle for that last Champions League place.
United have only won 30% of their games away from home but have also lost just once in their last 4 and there has certainly been an upturn in the clubs form.

Arsenal: Callum Chambers has a knee problem but it is thought not to be too serious but he is a doubt for this game. Granit Xhaka has illness but will be looked at before this game
Manchester United: The club have no new injuries coming into this game

Arsenal need to approach the game with confidence. It was interesting to see the club adopt a change at home under Arteta, hounding down the ball and chasing the game, in short showing commitment. However one would have noticed that they only had 2 shots on target in their last game. Arsenal need to attack from the first whistle and if they show caution this will play into United’s game plan. The question is do Arsenal have the confidence to go toe to toe with United a team who are in good form. We think Arsenal will be afraid to lose this match, which could mean they struggle to win it. We do see both teams getting on the scoresheet but we have to give the edge to Man utd.
