England Premier League
Tuesday 7th July 2020
Kick off at 8:15pm BST
Venue: Emirates Stadium
Match Preview:
Not many clubs go to Wolves and record a 2-0 win, and even though Arsenal were under pressure at times that was a huge win. Not only did they dent Wolves’ Champions League hopes they increased their chance of a European place next season.
The Gunners had a slow start to the restart and after losing their first two games could have caved in but they have bounced back in superb fashion winning 3 league games in a row and reaching the FA Cup semi finals.
Crisis? What crisis, Mikel Arteta seems to have turned it around at Arsenal in quick time and shown his qualities. Still you’re only as good as your last game and the Gunners will want to keep up their impressive form when they host Leicester.
Arsenal have climbed to 7th place as their form has changed and they will be hunting down Wolves who are only 3 points ahead of them now. A win here would cut the gap between them and Leicester to just six points as the club try to win every game until now until the end of the season, which has to be their objective. At home the Gunners have won 50% of their games and won their last 4 in a row.
Picking up 5 points from their past 12 simply isn’t going to cut it when you’re trying to qualify for the Champions League and Leicester need to put a run of games together. Winning 3-0 over Crystal Palace in their last game was a must and was needed after going 3 games without a win and seeing their gap to 4th placed Chelsea cut by just 1 point. Manchester United are in the mix now and if Leicester lose this game they have probably conceded 3rd this week at least to Chelsea.
The Foxes have won 7 games away from home which is impressive but at the same time they have lost 6 games. They currently have a pattern of losses and draws if this was to continue then this game would finish in a draw. With 16 goals conceded they would rank as 2nd as the best defence away from home only behind Liverpool, this could be cause for concern for Arsenal even in rampant form.
Team News:
Arsenal: No new injuries for the club though Mesut Ozil’s back problem has been on going. He hasn’t been ruled out of this game yet though, so should be assessed.
Leicester: Ayoze Perez has picked up a minor ankle problem but will be assessed for this game. Ben Chilwell has an achilles injury and could miss this game. James Maddison has an ongoing hip injury and it is unclear if he will make the cut for this match.
Arsenal vs Leicester Head to Head:
Leicester have won back to back meetings against Arsenal although they were at home on both occasions.
Last season Arsenal beat Leicester 3-1 in this fixture.
The last time the clubs met at the Emirates Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored two goals.
Leicester have not beaten Arsenal in London since 1973.
Arsenal vs Leicester Prediction:
Arsenal look like a breath of fresh air, their 2-0 win away to Southampton injected the players with confidence, like a shot in the arm and they have built on that. Beating the likes of Southampton and Norwich is one thing but beating Wolves away from home is a real eye opener which many people may have not seen coming.
Leicester have shown their own qualities but they look a little fragile, with the pressure mounting on them overall they have played like they are afraid to lose, the win over Crystal Palace being the exception, but they themselves are playing like they are on holiday.
The Foxes have a poor record here and Arsenal should be a feared opponent. It’s not impossible to see a surprise result, but Arsenal have turned things round, Arteta should be credited with installing belief in the players that there is something to play for. We should join the Arteta way of thinking for this game.
