Arsenal vs Leeds: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League
Sunday 8th May 2022
Kick off at 2pm BST
Venue: Emirates Stadium

Match Preview:

This is a huge game for both teams and for very different reasons when they meet on Sunday. Arsenal can end Manchester United’s hopes of a top four finish although if United have dropped points on Saturday it’s over for them anyway. But more importantly a top four finish is in the Gunners hands they just need to keep winning their games. The clubs biggest threat comes from Tottenham and they come into this weekend two points to the advantage of their north London rivals with the same games played, there are just four more to go.

Form for Arsenal has been good with 3 wins in a row and they have recently beaten Chelsea, Manchester United and West Ham. The majority of Arsenal’s points have come at home and indeed despite some troubles this season the Gunners have the third best home record in the league, winning 11 games and losing just four times. This is an upbeat moment for the club although they have lost two of their last 3 games here, form does seem to be turning around for Mikel Arteta’s side just at the right time though.

Leeds almost looked safe a few weeks ago but that isn’t the case now as Jesse Marsch’s side have been dragged into the battle that Burnley and Everton have been playing out for the past month. Leeds are in 17th place and two points clear of Everton in 18th but they have played a game more and their goal difference is poor. Form for the club isn’t too bad with 8 points earned from their last five games and just one loss that came in their last game as they were beaten at home 4-0 by Manchester City. This game represents another tough ask and Chelsea comes after so Leeds survival in the league is in doubt.

On the road while Leeds have only won four games their recent record is good and they have gone unbeaten in their last three, their last loss came against Leicester two months ago but critics would say that they haven’t been tested in that time.

Team News:

Arsenal: Ben White will be hoping to return from a hamstring injury and will be assessed. There are no new injuries for the club but Thomas Partey (thigh) is still out and Kieran Tierney (knee) looks likely to miss the rest of the season.

Leeds: Patrick Bamford could be assessed for a possible return in this game after his foot injury but he is only 50/50 and is touch and go. Liam Cooper will be assessed after a slight knee injury. Stuart Dallas is out for the season with a leg injury, Adam Forshaw is also out for the season with his knee.

Arsenal vs Leeds Head to Head:

The teams last met here in October in the Carabao Cup and Arsenal won 2-0.

Earlier in the season in the reverse fixture Arsenal won 4-1.

In the last 11 meetings Arsenal have won 9 of them and there have been two draws, Leeds haven’t beaten Arsenal away from home since 2003.

Arsenal have scored 10 goals against Leeds in the last three meetings.

Arsenal vs Leeds Prediction:

Arsenal will be too strong for Leeds in this game and they have a terrific record over them in recent years. The Gunners have blown hot and cold and who could have seen them lose at home to Brighton a few weeks ago? But the club have picked it up once again and look favourites to finish in fourth place which will put some gleam on what has felt like an average season for the club.

Overall Arsenal’s record at home is not to be ignored and while Leeds have shown improvement under their new manager this looks like a hard ask for them to come here and get a result. Arsenal will have to take the game to their opponents and be on it from the start and we feel there are a few goals in this game. The Gunners are 1.44 to win here so perhaps it is better looking into some different markets.
