England Premier League
Sunday 22nd August 2021
Kick off at 4:30pm BST
Venue: Emirates Stadium
Match Preview:
Even though Chelsea have clearly been the better side between the two clubs for the last few years, Arsenal have managed to get the better of the Blues in recent times and indeed they did the double over them last season so there could be a lot of optimism coming into this match.
The current trend though is that Chelsea will come to the Emirates and win given that they are the European champions and started the season with victory. Also the two clubs have different objectives this season. For Chelsea they are aiming to win the league and for Arsenal the big goal would be to finish in the top 4. How times have certainly changed.
Arsenal started the season off in the worse possible fashion by being beaten by league newcomers Brentford, with that game ending 2-0. The Gunners played some good football but were caught out and had few ideas, and it just felt like the same old Arsenal for the past few seasons now, it even felt before a ball was kicked that Arsenal would struggle and this has been born out of how the team play now and what their objectives are. Would we think the same of Manchester City or Liverpool having to play Brentford away?
Chelsea looked slick and professional as they brushed aside Crystal Palace 3-0 at Stamford Bridge. It was, in truth, an expected result but at the same time it was also clinical and they did all of this without Romelu Lukaku, who could start in this game.
Team News:
Arsenal: Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has recovered from illness but there are question marks if he is match fit and he is only 50/50 to start this game. Alexandre Lacazette is ruled out after testing for coronavirus. Eddie Nketiah has an ankle injury and isn’t due back for 3 weeks, it is the exact same problem for Thomas Partey. Willian is only 50/50 to make this game as he has fitness issues.
Chelsea: N’Golo Kante will be assessed after his ankle injury but is being tipped to play. Ruben Loftus-Cheek has coronavirus and is unlikely to recover for this game in time it is the same problem for Christian Pulisic. Hakim Ziyech has a shoulder injury and is a doubt for this game but could be assessed.

Arsenal vs Chelsea Prediction:
The London derby is always special and it is interesting to have it so early in the season. Arsenal will be happy to be at home and it was a good week for the club to make Martin Odegaard a full time member of the team after their purchase from Real Madrid. At times last season Odegaard really impressed in midfield.
The problem for Arsenal will be up front and even if Aubameyang does play there will be some question marks over his overall fitness. Chelsea look strong but this will be a test for the Blues. But the man to keep all eyes on is Romelu Lukaku who is set to return to the Premier League after his huge successes in Italy with Inter Milan. He could be a nightmare for the Arsenal back four and will certainly have chances if Tuchel as expected plays him.
Arsenal will play their part and have their moments but we are going to back the Blues to get the win in what should be a very entertaining game.
