Arsenal vs Burnley: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Saturday 22nd December 2018
Kick off at 12.30pm GMT
Venue: Emirates Stadium

Match Preview:

Arsenal’s 22 game unbeaten run in all competitions ended in surprising fashion last weekend when they were beaten 3-2 against Southampton. The Gunners followed this up by limping out of the Carabao Cup to arch rivals Tottenham in a 2-0 loss. All of a sudden they have lost two games in a row and are out of a cup, so a win here to restore their confidence is much needed.

With all due to respect to Burnley, they do look like the perfect team for Unai Emery’s players to face to get back on track and the added bonus is that the Gunners will have home advantage.

Arsenal come into this game in 5th place and are just 3 points behind Chelsea and a top four position so there is still all to play for. After 5th there is a big 8 point gap to 6th so there is no immediate danger in that regard. Arsenal have lost just 1 game in the league at home all season.

Burnley’s loss to Tottenham last week has left Sean Dyche’s team in the bottom three and yet it is so close down there that they still have a chance to power on and escape, but make no illusions they are expected to lose this match.

They have lost 11 games already this season and away from home they have won just one game. Based on current form they are the second to worst team in the league and have lost 4 of their last five games.

Team News:

Arsenal: Hector Bellerin could miss at least a week with a calf problem. Mustafi will be assessed ahead of this game with a slight hamstring problem

Burnley: Robert Brady has a slight knock and is a doubt but will be assessed ahead of the game. Gudmundsson could return after much delays. Aaron Lennon has a knee injury and is set to miss at least a month

Arsenal vs Burnley Head to Head:

Last season Arsenal won this fixture 5-0.

On each time Arsenal have beaten Burnley at The Emirates they have scored at least 2 goals.

Arsenal vs Burnley Prediction:

If Arsenal were to lose this game serious questions would have to be asked about their dip in form. But Emery will have worked on the team and it seems almost inevitable that they will enjoy a comfortable victory at home against a listless side. Arsenal are as low as 1.20 to win the game so we will look into goalscoring markets and goal markets for better value, but the home win looks a dead cert.

Arsenal vs Burnley Betting Tips:

Anytime goalscorer: Alexandre Lacazette at 1.72

Arsenal to be winning at 30 minutes at 2.20

Arsenal to score 3+ goals at 1.91
