Arsenal vs Burnley: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Sunday 13th December 2020
Kick off at 7:15pm GMT
Venue: Emirates Stadium

Match Preview:

If you thought last season was bad for Arsenal take a look at this one. The Gunners are down in 15th place and have not won a game since the beginning of November and come into this one with no wins in the league for 4 matches. Breathe a little though as they are expected to win this match at home against Burnley and manager Mikel Arteta will be praying that this can kick start a winning run.

It’s all very well winning games in the Europa League and Arsenal are finding that rather easy to do scoring another four goals past Dundalk but with all due respect Arteta’s team have been handed a very easy group.

In the Premier League an Arsenal side has not struggled like this since the 1970s and whilst nobody is talking about a relegation battle just yet there has to be major concerns at the club nonetheless.

Arsenal have conceded 4 goals in their last two games and last weekend they were outwitted and outperformed by their London neighbours Tottenham as they lost 2-0. At home Arsenal even in seasons where they have struggled have usually been solid, not so this season and unbelievably for them they come into this match having lost their last 3 at the Emirates.

Burnley played decent football against Everton last weekend to earn a 1-1 draw. Sean Dyche’s team have been poor this season and come into this game in 18th place and have just six points, they are seven points shy of their hosts.

However Burnley’s form has improved in recent weeks and they have just 1 defeat in their last four. The club have lost 3 of their 5 away games so far and their last away match ended in a 5-0 defeat at Manchester City.

Team News:

Arsenal: Gabriel Martinelli is hopeful of a return but may have some fitness issues and could miss out. David Luiz will be assessed ahead of the game after his head injury v Wolves has seen the defender miss the last two matches for the club. Thomas Partey is still struggling with his thigh and could miss the next 10 days. Nicolas Pepe is serving a 3 match ban for his red card.

Burnley: Phillip Bardsley is being pencilled in to return for this fixture after his rib injury.

Arsenal vs Burnley Head to Head:

Last season this fixture finished 2-1 to Arsenal.

Burnley have not beaten Arsenal since 2008.

Arsenal have scored 13 goals past Burnley in the last 5 league meetings.

Arsenal vs Burnley Prediction:

Arsenal have a tough batch of Christmas period games coming up and that is why they have to be looking to win this game, in short this will feel like a cup final for them. Lose here and there has to be serious concerns about the club this season with Arteta’s job under threat.

But Arsenal should win here and another moment to witness could be the return of scoring goals for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang who has become suspiciously quiet in front of goal since signing his extended contract. When he doesn’t score in the league Arsenal do tend to struggle.

Despite losing against Tottenham, Arsenal showed some qualities in the second half, pressing the ball and creating good chances and this is the commitment that they need to put in to end their home hoo doo at the moment and get back to winning ways. We don’t see much hope for Burnley here even if they have improved.
