Arsenal vs Brighton: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League
Sunday 17th December 2023
Kick off at 2pm GMT
Venue: Emirates Stadium

Match Preview:

Arsenal were top of the league in what seemed like a blink of a second and all of a sudden their exploits in snatching a last minute winner at Luton to take them five points clear at the top doesn’t matter. That is the Premier League for you and the Gunners come into this weekend in 2nd place with 36 points. Last weekend Arsenal lost for the 2nd time only as they came up short away to Aston Villa who have now emerged as a title threat.

In midweek it was a dead rubber Champions League game for Arsenal who drew 1-1 away with PSV, the good news is that manager Mikel Arteta has not been charged by the FA over his rant over the referee in the Newcastle game. Despite the Villa defeat Arsenal have been in fine form and have won 4 of their last five games and at home they remain undefeated and will be odds on favourites to make this their seventh home win of the season. At home Arteta’s side have managed to score 20 goals which averages out at over 2 per game and they have won their last four home games in a row, the clubs last home game finished in a 2-1 win over Wolves.

Brighton are in 8th place with 26 points and Roberto De Zerbi is continuing to do a fantastic job with the Seagulls, with just some consistency they are a side who could genuinely be threatening even the top four. As it is the club remains in the top 8 but depending on results could climb one or two places. Last weekend was seen as a poor result with a 1-1 draw at home to strugglers Burnley, however it is just one defeat from their last five games. On the road it’s 3 wins but 3 losses and their last away game did end in a 3-2 defeat against Chelsea but they were coming back in that game.

Team News:

Arsenal: Mohamed Elneny is a doubt with his hamstring, Fabio Vieira, Jurrien Timber, Thomas Partey and Takehiro Tomiyasu are all out.

Brighton: Danny Welbeck will be assessed after a spell out but has a lack of match fitness. The following players are all out long term; Adam Webster, Soloman March, Tariq Lamptey, Pervis Estupinian, Julio Enciso and Ansi Fati.

Arsenal vs Brighton Head to Head:

Last season Brighton surprised Arsenal by winning this fixture 3-0.

Arsenal have lost the 3 meetings at home against Brighton and we would have to go back to 2021 for their last victory.

The last four meetings in a row have all seen over 2.5 goals.

Arsenal vs Brighton Prediction:

Here are two sides who are exciting to watch and will play counter attacking football in what could well be the most exciting game of the weekend in the Premier League. Arsenal lost last weekend which has dazed them a bit but they will be determined to win this game against a side they have struggled to beat at the Emirates lately. Brighton are strong, but are they as strong as last season? Arsenal will take heart that Chelsea who have struggled this season managed to put 3 goals past the Seagulls the last time the teams met and this Arsenal side boast better quality. However the 1.44 being quoted on the home win doesn’t rock our boat so let’s look into different markets.

Arsenal vs Brighton Betting Tips:

Half Time: Arsenal to be winning at 1.91

Anytime goalscorer: Gabriel Jesus at 2.50

Over 2.5 goals at 1.57

Both teams to score at 1.66
