England Premier League
Saturday 9th April 2022
Kick off at 3pm BST
Venue: Emirates Stadium
Match Preview:
Arsenal remain the favourites to finish in 4th place but the chances are thinning out and that was brought to everyone’s attention with their 3-0 loss last Monday against Crystal Palace.
The Gunners come into this game in 5th place with 54 points the same as 4th placed Tottenham but they have played a game less. Will Mikel Arteta’s side fall at the final hurdle? They could well do and recent form does not bode too well with two defeats in their last 3 games. What has also been striking is that the club have scored just 1 goal in their last three games.
After spending their last two matches playing away Arsenal will be happy to be back at home. True, they lost here last time out but that was against Liverpool and overall the Gunners have looked impressive at home and have the 3rd best home record only behind the inevitable two- Liverpool and Manchester City. The Gunners have won almost 70% of their games at home.
Brighton are in 13th place and their once solid season is threatening to end very badly. It’s seven games without victory for Graham Potter’s side and with 34 points and the games remaining no one is believing they will face a relegation battle but at the same time one has to wonder where is the motivation for the players to give 110% on the pitch as a European place has long left them. It is clearly a disappointing end to the season for the the club.
The Seagulls could only draw 0-0 in their last game but that was against bottom side Norwich and away from home they have drawn 50% of their games but they lost their last two in a row with recent defeats coming against Manchester United and Newcastle.
Team News:
Arsenal: Thomas Partey could miss the rest of the month with a thigh injury with no fixed date on his return. Nicolas Pepe is expected to return after illness forced him to miss the last match but he will have to be assessed. It’s bad news for Kieran Tierney who could miss the rest of the season with a knee injury.
Brighton: Adam Webster is being tipped to finally return but has some fitness issues and will be assessed. Jakub Moder has a knee injury and he will probably miss the rest of the season now.
Arsenal vs Brighton Head to Head:
The clubs have only played each other 24 times and Arsenal has the majority of the wins with 14 so far.
Last season this fixture finished 2-0 to Arsenal.
Earlier in the season in the reverse fixture the game ended 0-0.
There is a 60% chance to see under 2.5 goals and the last three meetings in a row have seen this.
Arsenal vs Brighton Prediction:
This fixture has a recent lack of goals and Arsenal are struggling to score at the moment so it would be easy to think that there will not be many goals in this game. However Arteta has rarely been as angry as he was after the Palace defeat and he will demand that his club respond in the right manner.
In truth, and with all due respect to Brighton, they are a club that look there for the taking and if Arsenal click they should be able to get a comfortable victory here against a team they usually beat. With a strong finish Brighton could finish in the top 10 and one would presume that their form especially under Potter will change for the better before the end of the season but the Emirates is a tough ground to go to to see that change.
Arsenal need to get back to winning ways and put the pressure back on Tottenham and we can see them getting all three points at the weekend. Arsenal’s price isn’t too bad and a few years ago this price would have been around 1.30 so 1.62 should be snapped up.
