Wolves vs West Brom: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Saturday 16th January 2021
Kick off at 12:30pm GMT
Venue: Molineux Stadium

Match Preview:

After a run of poor form Wolves continue to slip down the table and they come into this match in 14th place. Wolves lost their last game 2-1 at home to Everton and although the club have been missing some key players there is cause for concern that they are not creating enough chances at present.

Wolves get another opportunity to play at home and they will be the favourites to win this match at the weekend. It’s been a very difficult period for Wolves but they could climb up 2-3 places with victory and with the league being so close can start thinking about a European finish again.

West Bromwich Albion were supposed to be on the road to recovery with Sam Allardyce in charge but that hasn’t happened and if anything they look worse off.

Allardyce’s strategy was to shore up defence and nick draws away and 1-0 victories at home but the Baggies have been conceding goals as if there is no tomorrow. They have shipped 13 goals in the four games that Allardyce has been in charge and they are yet to win under his guidance.

The away side are in 19th place with 8 points and are six points from safety. They have lost their last 2 games and have yet to win on the road so far.

Team News:

Wolves: Willy Boly remains a doubt with his ongoing hamstring injury as does Marcal with his groin. Daniel Podence is ruled out with a calf injury and Raul Jimenez is back in training but won’t play.

West Bromwich Albion: Conor Gallagher is suspended for picking up his fifth yellow of the season. Sam Field is only 50/50 because of a lack of fitness. Hal Robson-Kanu still has his wrist problems but is 50/50 for this game. Conor Townsend has been pencilled in for this game after his lay off with a knee injury but will face a late test.

Wolves vs West Brom Head to Head:

The clubs have not played this fixture since 2012 when West Bromwich Albion ran out 5-1 winners.

From the last 8 meetings Wolves have only won once.

There is a 60% chance to see under 2.5 goals.

Wolves vs West Brom Prediction:

On paper and being at home Wolves should be able to find the win. They will be working hard behind the scenes to fix their problems and install some confidence in the team. They will take heart that they are playing a team who have conceded 39 goals so far.

West Bromwich Albion have to start picking up the points or it wasn’t worth sacking Slaven Bilic over this. They have been poor and lacked belief and the chances are running out for Allardyce. The Baggies have a good record against Wolves but at the same time the clubs have not met for a long time.

Something has got to give because we have two teams lacking confidence and Wolves have taken some blows with their recent injuries. But it is hard to trust West Brom’s defence at the moment and someone like Pedro Neto who will get more of an advanced chance now with players out could well expose them.

Wolves vs West Brom Betting Tips:

Wolves to beat West Bromwich Albion at 1.57

Anytime goalscorer: Pedro Neto at 2.70
