Wolves vs Man City: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League
Wednesday 11th May 2022
Kick off at 8:15pm BST
Venue: Molineux Stadium

Match Preview:

Wolves European hopes for next season look over after recent poor form and they come into this game 5 points behind 7th and the final European position looks a stretch now. Wolves have a game in hand over West Ham in seventh although it is this one and they will be the huge underdogs to get anything in this game.

We go back to form and Wolves have not been playing like a team who know there is a European place up for grabs. Yes they did well in drawing 2-2 at Chelsea but overall form simply hasn’t been good enough and we would have to go back to the beginning of April when they beat Aston Villa for their last victory.

Wolves actually have a better away record than at home and indeed their majority of the results at home have been losses with 8 from 17. This includes three defeats from their last five games and their last home game ended in a disappointing 3-0 loss against Brighton.

Manchester City are trying to win their second league title in a row and they are 3 points clear of Liverpool after the Reds drew against Tottenham at the weekend. Liverpool have played the day before against Aston Villa so City will know exactly what they have to do. If Liverpool have lost then this game won’t confirm the league title but it may as well. For City though they have to think of themselves and take each game as it comes as they try to fend off the challenge from Liverpool.

Form for Pep Guardiola’s side has been very good with four wins in a row and last weekend they destroyed Newcastle 5-0 at home. Indeed City have scored an incredible 14 goals in their last three games and they are flying even though they have had the disappointment of going out of the Champions League recently. Away from home City have earned 13 points from their last 15 and their last away game ended in an easy 4-0 win over Leeds.

Team News:

Wolves: Daniel Podence is 50/50 to make this game after a lack of match fitness. An update on Nelson Semedo means that he will now miss the rest of the season with his hamstring. Max Kilman is also out for the season with an ankle injury.

Manchester City: There are no new injuries for the club but John Stones (muscle), Ruben Dias (hamstring) and Kyle Walker (ankle) have all been ruled out for the season.

Wolves vs Man City Head to Head:

Last season Manchester City won this fixture 3-1.

Earlier in the season in the reverse fixture Manchester City won 1-0.

In the last six meetings the teams have won three games each.

Manchester City have scored 10 goals past Wolves in the last four games.

Wolves vs Man City Prediction:

As expected City are big odds on so backing them for the win makes little sense but we do indeed believe that City can cruise to a win here. Wolves have had some positive results over Guardiola’s side in recent seasons but City are going for this title now and having the league title as their only possible piece of silverware now, one can sense the hunger is immense from the club and that Wolves will not be stopping them.

This is why we will concentrate on the goals market and possibly backing both teams to score could be worth it as City will be going for all out attack early on and Wolves can find gaps especially given City come into this game with some defender issues. We should see an entertaining game and it will be easier to know to how this game will feel before kick off once we know the Liverpool result against Aston Villa. But City still look like the favourites to win the league.
