Wolves vs Chelsea: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Saturday 14th September 2019
Kick off at 3pm BST
Venue: Molineux Stadium

Match Preview:

Wolves have finally had some rest bite from the Europa League and should come into this match fresh, even though their Europa League group stage campaign will begin next week.

The home side have yet to win this season and come into this game in 17th place. It has been far from an ideal start for a team who finished 7th last season but at the same time it is important to understand that they have lost just one game this season, that defeat came in their last match 3-2 against Everton.

They have gone to Leicester and drew 0-0 there in a tricky encounter and forced a 1-1 draw against Manchester United, so there are small pockets of success to be happy about, but the club need to get a win under their belt.

Chelsea have played well but results have been poor and Frank Lampard is hoping that his team will click into place and go on a run. The Blues need too or this could quickly become a season to write off. They have had just one win so far this season and the problem has been concentration where they keep getting pegged back when in the lead. Wolves would go past Chelsea with a win, and Lampard will be well aware that the clubs Champions League campaign starts next week at home to Valencia.

Team News:

Wolves: Willy Boly will miss this match through suspension after being sent off v Everton. Matt Doherty is out with a knee injury and looks set, at least, to miss the rest of the month

Chelsea: Emerson is a doubt after picking up a hamstring injury on international duty. Callum Hudson-Odoi will miss this game but could be back next week after a lack of match fitness. N’Golo Kante is 50/50 with his ongoing ankle injury. Pedro should be back after his hamstring injury last month. Mateo Kovacic has an Achilles problem but it isn’t thought to be major. Antonio Rudiger’s delayed return to the team will be assessed and he could be included in the squad after fitness issues

Wolves vs Chelsea Head to Head:

Last season this match ended 2-1 to Wolves.

Chelsea have won 3 games at Wolves from the last five meetings.

Chelsea have not beaten Wolves since 2017.

The last three meetings has seen more goals in the 2nd half.

Wolves vs Chelsea Prediction:

Make no mistake this is a very tough game for Chelsea and Lampard will know that. Wolves won’t lose many games at home this season, and they will be up for this game. There are goals in this side and Chelsea look quite fragile at the back having conceded 9 goals already, only Norwich have shipped more.

A few seasons ago this match would have been an easy one to call - the away win. But Chelsea have shown little mentality so far that they can come to a ground like Wolves and get the win. So we are backing the home side here to ease to victory at very good odds with the draw covered. This is the first time this season that manager Nuno Espirito Santo has been able to have a clear run, with no European distraction before a game, and we think that the club can reap the benefits.
