West Ham vs West Brom: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Tuesday 19th January 2021
Kick off at 6pm GMT
Venue: London Stadium

Match Preview:

West Ham continue to be solid and have only lost 2 matches in their last 10 as they come into this match where they will be fancying themselves for another three points at home.

The Hammers are in 9th place and could move up a few positions and get onto the 30 point marker with victory. Form is good for David Moyes' side who have won their last 2 games and are unbeaten in their last four. At the weekend West Ham beat Burnley 1-0 through a 9th minute goal by Michail Antonio and they haven’t conceded a goal in their last 3 games.

At home West Ham have the sixth best record in the league winning 15 points from a possible 27 with just two defeats at home and one in their last five games. The only real disappointment about their home status has been their lack of goals, just 13 from 9 games isn’t the best return.

West Bromwich Albion won their first league game under Sam Allardyce at the weekend and whilst the 3 points were like finding gold it would have been the way the club won the game that would have impressed Allardyce the most. The Baggies beat Wolves away from home 3-2 a feat in itself but the club took the lead then lost it and went 2-1 down only to come back.

The game was a roller coaster ride and quite unlike how an Allardyce side should play. The usual script would have been the early goal and then park the bus, this was something different and the players had a spark about them that was previously missing. West Brom are still 19th but are only a point behind 18th placed Fulham and five from safety.

The Baggies have one of the poorest away records in the league and have won just once. But hold your horses, because recent away form has been excellent. The latest match was of course the win over Wolves but the two previous away games saw the club draw against Manchester City and Liverpool, those are two astounding results and shouldn’t be ignored.

Team News:

West Ham: Fabian Balbuena is ill and is ruled out he is the only new concern for the club ahead of the game.

West Brom: Karlan Grant will miss the next 3-4 weeks with a cracked bone in his foot.

West Ham vs West Brom Head to Head:

The teams haven’t met here in the league since 2018 when West Ham won 2-1.

The clubs met in the FA Cup this time last year with West Ham at home and West Brom won 1-0.

West Brom have not won at West Ham in the league since 2003.

There is a 70% chance to see both teams to score.

West Ham vs West Brom Prediction:

West Ham are not being spectacular- far from it, but they are getting results and moving on and this will be remembered for a solid season so far. If they can improve slightly then a European finish is also on the cards.

What happened with West Bromwich Albion at the weekend because when this club goes behind they usually lose heart and the game goes away from them. So was the Wolves comeback and a hint at swashbuckling football a blip or has Allardyce changed tactics and mentality on the training field given that his defence tactics cleary were not working, they do say the best form of defence is attack.

This is a match that can go either way, West Ham have shown real courage this season, there has been plenty of games they could have lost in other seasons. West Brom are in decent form especially away from home and possibly we should be taking them seriously for this game despite their league position, the value is certainly with the away side.
