West Ham vs Burnley: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Wednesday 8th July 2020
Kick off at 6pm BST
Venue: London Stadium

Match Preview:

West Ham have improved over the last two games to the relief of manager David Moyes and the Hammers now look like one of the favourites to survive relegation.

The 3-2 epic win over Chelsea was simply huge, not just the three points but a belief within the team that if they can beat the team in 4th place then why can’t they beat teams around them? They followed up the Chelsea victory with a decent 2-2 draw away to Newcastle. True, Moyes would have been upset a little given that his side blew the lead twice but the Hammers would have taken a point before the game, and the Magpies themselves have been in good form.

At home the Hammers have lost 50% of their games but have lost just once in their last four games.Michial Antonio has really stepped up for the club scoring three goals in their last two games and with the absence of Sebastien Haller this has really helped them.

Burnley are in 9th place with an impressive 46 points and Sean Dyche’s team could well end up in Europe on this form. Since being destroyed by Manchester City when football restarted they have recorded two wins and a draw. Their last match ended in a 1-1 draw with Sheffield United.

Overall whilst Burnley have lost 7 games on the road they have won 3 from the last five and really improved. Although they have managed just 1 goal from their past 3 games on the road.

Team News:

West Ham: Sebastien Haller is back in training and will be hopeful to be back for this game. Felipe Anderson will be assessed with a muscle injury.

Burnley: Ben Mee looks ruled out of this game with a thigh injury and may well miss the next few weeks. Matthew Lowton has a foot injury and won’t play.

West Ham vs Burnley Head to Head:

Earlier in the season Burnley beat West Ham 3-0.

Last season this fixture ended 4-2 to West Ham.

There have been 14 goals in the past 4 league meetings between the two sides.

West Ham vs Burnley Prediction:

If West Ham can win this game they could go 7 points clear of the bottom three and we should expect them to attack from the very beginning. The players will have it in their mind that Aston Villa will have to play Manchester United and Bournemouth will have to play Tottenham. This could be the perfect opportunity for the Hammers to stake their claim for survival, and at home against Burnley, they will have tougher matches than this to contend with.

Burnley remain unpredictable and if they score first they will try and suffocate the game, they could well be happy with a point. This is a game where the Hammers have to show the same passion and commitment that they did against Chelsea, they can’t blow this one.
