Watford vs West Ham: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Saturday 24th August 2019
Kick off at 3pm BST
Venue: Vicarage Road

Match Preview:

There are 4 teams that have yet to earn any points and one of them is last seasons FA Cup finalists Watford. Indeed the Hornets are bottom of the league based on goal difference where they have shipped 4 goals and are yet to score any.

They opened up their account in disappointing fashion by losing 3-0 at home to Brighton. A tough fixture in an away game at Everton followed and they narrowly lost that game 1-0. The club did show some promise at Goodison Park but still finished with only 2 shots on target. Suddenly they are under some pressure to get a result in this game.

West Ham have been a mixed bag. They were swatted aside 5-0 by the champions Manchester City on the opening weekend where they looked toothless at home. However they played much better, more compact, and with pace against Brighton and got a draw, although the Hammers had to ride their luck at times.

A lot was hoped for West Ham this season, and that could still be the case but on the evidence of their first two games there is still a lot of work to be done for Manuel Pellegrini’s team.

Team News:

Watford: Ismaila Sarr looks likely to miss another game of the season due to fitness issues, he is the only worry for the Hornets coming into this game,

West Ham: Winston Reid is still out with fitness issues but is now in training. Otherwise the Hammers have a fit first team squad.

Watford vs West Ham Head to Head:

The last time the teams met was at the end of last season when West Ham won this fixture 4-1. Though it is worth noting that Watford were preparing for the FA Cup final.

There is a 60% chance to see under 2.5 goals.

West Ham have just 1 win at Vicarage Road in the past 4 meetings.

Watford vs West Ham Prediction:

The teams form is quite similar in that they have both already this season looked very poor in one game and only showed flashes of good play in the other. This is why we expect this match to get off to a slow start and in truth any team can beat the other, there is no real clear advantage. Our main choice will be to back the second half having more goals and we will also back the half time result as a draw. Mark Noble is back in the Hammers side again and he might be worth a small stake to score anytime, he likes playing against Watford and last time out he scored a brace.

Watford vs West Ham Betting Tips:

Half with most goals: 2nd half at 1.91

Half Time Result: A draw at 2.25

Anytime goalscorer: Mark Noble at 6.00
