Watford vs Tottenham: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League

Venue: Vicarage Road

Match Preview:

Think of Watford this season and relegation and managerial chaos springs to mind, but none of these apply to the Hornets over the past month as the appointment of Nigel Pearson is proving to be an inspired one. The club stepped out of the relegation zone last weekend as they beat Bournemouth 3-0 and now it's about keeping that momentum up.

Here is the amazing statistic; On form in the last 5 games Watford would be 2nd in the league. They have won their last 3 games in a row and have earned 13 points from their last 15. They have remained undefeated for 1 month, the last team to beat them was Liverpool and at home they haven’t lost a game for almost 9 weeks.

Pearson’s side have done an excellent job in beating the teams around them but have also laid Manchester United to the sword and this lunch time game could well prove to be a tasty fixture.

You could be forgiven to think that Tottenham are not looking forward to this game. Life under Jose Mourinho has hardly gone swell with the club having already lost 4 league games under him. Last week they huffed and they puffed but Liverpool were more clinical in front of goal as Tottenham were defeated 1-0 at home.

This latest result has seen Spurs fall to 8th place and a top 4 place is looking more unrealistic as weeks go by. They are currently 9 points from their target, but now there are 3 teams in their way. Consistency has been a major problem for he club and the injury to Harry Kane who could be out until April has been a major blow.

Away from home the club have won just 1 game in their past four and defeats haven’t just come against the likes of Liverpool. Southampton beat them at home and even Norwich in bottom place where able to draw 2-2.

Team News:

Watford: Femenia has made good headway with his hamstring injury but is being tipped to miss this game. Will Hughes has missed several weeks with a knock and won’t be risked here but he could be back in the next couple of weeks.

Tottenham: Harry Kane is out with a hamstring injury and an update has revealed he could return in April at the earliest. Tanguy Ndombele remains sidelined with a hip injury. Moussa Sissoko is out until April with a knee injury.

Watford vs Tottenham Head to Head:

Last season Watford won this fixture 2-1.

Both teams have scored in the last 3 league meetings.

It’s been 3 games since Tottenham won away at Watford.

There is a 60% chance to see over 2.5 goals.

Watford vs Tottenham Prediction:

Tottenham do not travel well and have only won 2 games away from home in a year. Watford are full of confidence and will raise their game even more against a side who made the Champions League final last year. It will take a vintage display from Tottenham or a lucky one to get all three points here.

This wouldn’t have been the case before Pearson’s appointment but he has changed everything at the club, so much so, one could install them as the favourites to win this game. Of course that isn’t the case and Tottenham remain the clear favourites at around 2.25, notice how the bookmakers are going nowhere near odds on for Mourinho’s side, they know this should be a very hard game for them. Injuries are also mounting up for the away side although they have brought in Gedson Fernandes on loan from Benfica in midfield. On paper Tottenham would be good for the win, but on form it is hard to look past the home side getting something from this game.
