Watford vs Liverpool: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Saturday 29th February 2020
Kick off at 5:30pm GMT
Venue: Vicarage Road

Match Preview:

When you’re fighting for survival the last team you want to face is Liverpool but that is what Watford will have to do at the weekend in the early evening Saturday game.

The Hornets are in 19th place but are just 1 point from safety, although no one will be tipping them to get anything in this game. They lost 3-0 away at Manchester United and the Nigel Pearson effect as manager has certainly worn off.

The club have won just 2 points from their last 15 and at home they have won 3 games so far. Their last home game ended in a 3-2 defeat against Everton and they haven’t won here since beating Wolves on New Years Day.

From their last 45 points Liverpool have won 45 and are 22 points in front of Manchester City as they edge nearer to their first title win since 1990. From 39 points away from home they have won 37 and last weekend they beat West Ham 3-2 at home. It was an important victory for the Reds because they were put in a rare position of being 2-1 down and still showed a desire to get back in the game and win it. The key difference was their endless supply of fitness, they simply out ran West Ham in the end, getting to every loose ball first, and making forward runs that West Ham no longer had the legs to effectively mark their attackers.

Team News:

Watford: Femenia should be back for this game after recovering from injury.

Liverpool: James Milner has a muscle strain and will miss this game but should be back for the clubs FA Cup match next week.

In the last 7 meetings Liverpool have scored 25 goals past Watford.

It has been 9 games since Watford last beat Liverpool going back to 2015.

Watford vs Liverpool Prediction:

With all due respect to Watford, if they are going to win this game it would be because Liverpool had a shocking day out. They have been that solid, professional and in control that it is very unlikely to see anything else but an away win here. Watford aren’t even in good form and manager Pearson, though he would never admit this is probably thinking of the next game. At the same time the club will need to be tight in defence because if they lose by a big score that goal difference could well effect Watford’s survival bid. Liverpool are big odds on so we will look into increasing the odds with a small handicap, we also think Salah might get on the scoresheet as he often does well against Watford.

Watford vs Liverpool Betting Tips:

Asian handicap (-1 Liverpool) at 1.65

Anytime goalscorer (Mohamed Salah) at 1.98
