Tottenham vs Southampton: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Saturday 28th September 2019
Kick off at 3pm BST
Venue: Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

Match Preview:

It’s fair to say that it has been a bad week for Tottenham. Last weekend they lost 2-1 against Leicester in the league and then they were knocked out of the Carabao Cup against Colchester on penalties after the 90 minutes had finished 0-0. This was a massive shock and blow to last seasons Champions League finalists and even though manager Mauricio Pochettino did make sweeping changes to his side there was still more than enough international quality that should have been able to deal with Colchester.

Tottenham come into this game in 7th place and already 10 points behind leaders Liverpool. They have won just 1 game in their past five matches and not all seems right with the club. Having said that their strongest team are still brilliant to watch at times and everyone was in awe when they last played at home and beat Crystal Palace 4-0.

Southampton are in 13th place and remain just like last season a team where you don’t know what type of performance you are going to get. Their last game ended in a 3-1 home defeat at the hands of in form Bournemouth, which stopped a run of good form where the Saints had gone on a 3 game unbeaten run. Away from home they have the 5th best record in the league where from their 3 games they have won 2 and lost once. That includes winning their last two away games against Sheffield United and Brighton respectively.

Team News:

Tottenham: The club have no new injuries but long term remains with the likes of new signings Giovani Lo Celso and Ryan Sessegnon both out for several weeks

Southampton: Alex McCarthy has picked up a muscle injury and is a doubt for this game. Moussa Djenepo is also out with the same injury

Tottenham vs Southampton Head to Head:

The last 7 meetings have seen both teams to score.

Last season this fixture ended 3-1 to Tottenham.

In the past 15 years Southampton have only won once at Tottenham.

Tottenham vs Southampton Prediction:

We would be really surprised if there isn’t a reaction from Tottenham in this game, one that yields a good score too just to erase that embarrassing Carabao Cup exit. And this is where we will concentrate our choices on, goals and for Tottenham to get off on the front foot, creating many chances. In some ways this match could well replicate the Palace result from a weeks ago.

Southampton aren’t doing too badly and their motivation is clear here because if they win they shoot up the table and go past Tottenham, but this away game does look like it will be out of the Saints’ hands.

Tottenham vs Southampton Betting Tips:
