Tottenham vs Man City: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Saturday 21st November 2020
Kick off at 5:30pm GMT
Venue: Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

Match Preview:

A huge clash will take place in London when Tottenham take on Manchester City on Saturday. It is also a clash between two great managers in Jose Mourinho and Pep Guardiola who have had an incredible rivalry over the past decade.

Tottenham enter this game with the best form in the Premier League having earned 13 points from their last 15 available. The media have even suggested title talk for a club who have never won the Premier League and their last top flight success was back in 1961. But after a slow start Tottenham have been playing some good football, and they are scoring goals. Also at this moment in time they can boast perhaps the best striker partnership in the league in the form of Harry Kane and Heung-Min Son.

Jose Mourinho’s team come into this game having won their last 3 in a row. Their last match ended in a narrow 1-0 win over West Bromwich Albion and their last home game finished in a 2-1 win over Brighton. Because of the way the fixtures have played out this weekend Tottenham would go top of the league with a win.

Manchester City are down in 10th place and 5 points behind Tottenham, though they do have a game in hand. It’s been a sluggish start by City’s standards with the main problem being the failure of winning consecutive games as they have gone their last five without defeat. Indeed from their seven matches played so far they have only lost once.

City’s last game was a 1-1 draw at home to the champions Liverpool and while that looks like a decent result it’s still 2 points dropped at home. However City are unbeaten away from home so far with 2 wins and two draws. Although one could contest that Guardiola’s team have not been tested by any of the so called big six clubs yet on the road.

This is a huge game for City because a loss here and one could feel the side just slipping away from their top 4 duties. Even a win would only at best raise the club into sixth place, so this game remains fascinating and highly watchable.

Team News:

Tottenham: Stephen Bergwijn will face a test on his fitness but is being tipped to at least be included in the squad. Tanguy Ndombele had a foot injury before the internationals but has a good chance to make this team although will face an assessment. There has been no update on Erik Lamela who is struggling with an unspecified injury and Matt Doherty has the Coronavirus and is ruled out.

Manchester City: Sergio Aguero has been pencilled in to return for this game after his muscle injury although no update has been given so far. Nathan Ake has a good chance to make this one after his hamstring injury. Benjamin Mendy faces a test and is only 50/50 to make this game. Raheem Sterling has a minor calf problem but should be able to play. Fernandinho is still out and is not due back for another two weeks.

Tottenham vs Man City Head to Head:

Tottenham won this fixture 2-0 last season the clubs only win over Manchester City in the last seven attempts in the league.

There is a 60% chance to see over 2.5 goals.

Heung-Min Son has scored 4 goals past City in the last 5 meetings.

Tottenham vs Man City Prediction:

Tottenham have actually only won once at home this season but they will be 100% ready for this game. In all the club are probably lacking slightly over Manchester City in terms of first 11 quality but City have their own problems.

A few key personnel remain ruled out like Fernandinho for the away side but also Aguero even if he comes back might be slighly rusty. Sterling is struggling too but should be fine but the bottom line is that City have been dogged by injuries since the beginning of the season.

If City click and that means if Kevin De Bruyne is on his game they are near unbeatable and they have recorded some very good wins over Tottenham away from home in recent times. And of course there is that extra spice in the dug out between Mourinho and Gurdiola and Mourinho has fared quite well in their recent battles.

This is a match that has a draw written over it so there is certainly value in taking Tottenham on the +1 Asian handicap, meaning that if the game ends in a draw or Spurs win the bet would win, and even if they lose by one goal the stake is refunded.

Tottenham vs Man City Betting Tips:
