Tottenham vs Burnley: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Sunday 28th February 2021
Kick off at 2pm GMT
Venue: Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

Match Preview:

If only everything could be as sweet and rosy as playing in Europe - here Tottenham win games and Gareth Bale gets picked and scores goals. Tottenham have qualified for the quarter finals of the Europa League, now they need to transfer some of that form into the Premier League.

It’s getting a little desperate for Tottenham’s project under Jose Mourinho now and they have lost 4 of their last 5 games. Only finishing in the top 4 will do - unless Tottenham go on to win the Europa League and currently the club are 9 points behind that position although they do have a game in hand over their top 4 rivals. One gets the sense though that dropping points here could be the final straw for the club and their Champions League hopes, because Tottenham do not seem to possess the quality of going on 5 game winning runs for example.

Tottenham’s last game finished in a 2-1 loss at West Ham and the club have lost their last two coming into this game. At home it’s five wins from 12 which isn’t a great return and one win in their last four.

Burnley are in 15th and yet only 8 points behind their hosts and their form has significantly improved as they have gone their last 4 games unbeaten. However 3 of those matches ended in draws and last weekend Sean Dyche’s team could only draw 0-0 with West Bromwich Albion. Because of the amount of draws chalked up it means that Burnley are still under threat from relegation and are in fact just six points from the bottom three.

Sean Dyche’s team have the 4th to worst away record in the league and have lost 50% of their games. However they have also won 2 of their last 3 meetings on the road beating Crystal Palace and Liverpool.

Team News:

Tottenham: No new injuries for the club, an update on Giovani Lo Celso says that he could return in about 3 weeks time from his muscle injury.

Burnley: Ashley Barnes is ruled out with a thigh injury, Robert Brady is 50/50 to return from his ankle injury. Gudmundsson is a huge doubt for this game due to his hamstring injury and will probably miss out. Erik Pieters could be assessed but is only 50/50 and Dale Stephens is being tipped to return after a lack of match fitness.

Tottenham vs Burnley Head to Head:

Last season Tottenham won this fixture 5-0.

Earlier in the season Tottenham beat Burnley 1-0.

There is a 60% chance to see under 2.5 goals.

Tottenham vs Burnley Prediction:

Burnley have been in good form and will have chances in this game but surely Tottenham have to be favourites even with poor form. They got a great result in midweek and yes it was against weak opposition in the Europa League but the players will take something from a two legged affair where they scored 8 goals.

It seems that Jose Mourinho and Gareth Bale have made up and surely that means that Bale will start this game, a confident Bale is a good one and maybe he can prove some of his doubters wrong.

We feel this is make or break for Tottenham and they will look back and see that they scored 5 goals last season against Burnley and we expect a few goals at the weekend. It may not be an easy game, but Tottenham have the quality to win and that is what we will back.

Tottenham vs Burnley Betting Tips:
