Southampton vs Watford: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Saturday 30th November 2019
Kick off at 5:30pm GMT
Venue: St Mary's Stadium

Match Preview:

Southampton are in 19th and look like facing a relegation battle even if they do have time on their side. They did almost beat Arsenal away last week, which would have been a magnificent result but they haven’t won a game in almost two months and have picked up just 2 points from their last 15.

The Saints have conceded 31 goals, which is the most in the league although they haven’t been helped by that 9-0 loss against Leicester. It’s got to the point now where a win would not be good enough to take them out of the bottom three.

Southampton have the worst home record in the league and after six games still are yet to win a game. They have scored just 5 times here and have lost 4 games in a row.

Watford are bottom of the league so there is a lot to play for here. With 8 points they are one behind Southampton and a loss would be a big blow to the club. Last weekend they were defeated at home 3-0 to Burnley and have won 1 game in their past five.

The Hornets have a poor overall away record but they have gone their last 2 games undefeated. After drawing against Tottenham and then beating fellow struggler's Norwich.

Team News:

Southampton: Sofiane Boufal remains at 50/50 with a toe injury. Stuart Armstrong has been ruled out for at least with 3 weeks with his hamstring injury

Watford: Daniel Bachmann is fighting to be fit for this game after spending time out. Craig Dawson has been ruled out over a head injury. Christian Kabasele is out with a hamstring injury. Roberto Pereyra has recovered from his hamstring but will have a late fitness test. Sebastian Prodl could miss the rest of the year with a knee injury. Domingos Quina could be selected after proving his fitness but if selected will most probably start from the bench

Southampton vs Watford Head to Head:

The last two meetings have finished with the correct result of 1-1.

In the last 11 years Watford have only won once at Southampton.

There is a 70% chance to see under 2.5 goals.

Southampton vs Watford Prediction:

We don’t expect this game to be memorable as both teams will be tense trying to get the win, but we do think Southampton are the team to back. Ever since losing 9-0 to Leicester a few weeks the club have had much more of an urgency about them. They asked questions of Manchester City and Everton even if they lost those games, the players showed some commitment and pride. They are playing a team who have been poor this season like themselves but also a team who do not travel very well to their ground. We think it will be a close game but Southampton at home can start winning and get 3 points on Saturday. Also we will back Danny Ings to get on the score sheet. The player has found his form and is scoring goals and he will be itching to score at home.
