Southampton vs Tottenham: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Saturday 9th March 2019
Kick off at 3pm GMT
Venue: St Mary's Stadium

Match Preview:

Southampton put in a fantastic effort away to Manchester United last weekend and the game looked like it would be heading for a draw, but they lost 3-2 and all of their efforts meant nothing on the day. However if the club can carry the positives of the game to this match they will feel that they can get something from it.

The Saints are still in the danger zone in 17th place and are two points from the bottom three. Only Cardiff are also in real danger but there is a thin line between survival and Championship football and The Saints really need these points.

Form is not good having lost 3 of their last four games but recent home form has improved with just 1 loss from their last four. Their last home game ended in a 2-0 win over Fulham.

Tottenham have wobbled in the league and 3rd place is seriously under threat from Arsenal, Manchester United and Chelsea. Spurs have no wins in their last 3 games but perhaps there is some light at the end of the tunnel.

The club got a 4-0 win aggregate over Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League and that would only have installed a feel good factor and a massive confidence boost as they qualified for the quarter finals. Those matches will not take place until April and there is a sense that the club will concentrate on the league now.

Team News:

Southampton: Danny Ings has been cofirmed out for the rest of March with his hamstring injury, he is the only new worry for the club

Tottenham: The big news for the club is the return of Dele Alli after being out for a long period with a hamstring injury. Kieran Trippier looks set to miss this game with a muscle injury. Harry Winks has a minor knock and will be assessed ahead of the game

Southampton vs Tottenham Head to Head:

Tottenham beat Southampton 3-1 earlier this season.

Last season the clubs drew 1-1 in this fixture.

Southampton have not beaten Tottenham when at home since 2005.

The last 6 meetings have seen both teams to score.

Southampton vs Tottenham Prediction:

We expect a Tottenham side who have a lot of confidence back to come here and get a good win. Perhaps their average recent form was in fact affected by the Champions League game that was looming. That is out of the way now and they can concentrate on trying to finish in the top 3 once again. We also expect Spurs to get a few goals, Southampton has shipped 49 so far this season.

Southampton vs Tottenham Betting Tips:

Tottenham to beat Southampton at 1.80

Tottenham to score 3+ goals at 3.75
