Southampton vs Everton: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Saturday 9th November 2019
Kick off at 3pm GMT
Venue: St Mary's Stadium

Match Preview:

Southampton manager Ralf Hassenhutl is now the bookies favourite to be the next Premier League manager sacked. This comes in part after the clubs 9-0 thrashing at the hands of Leicester recently. The Saints have also been knocked out of the Carabao Cup against Manchester City and then lost in their last league game, also against City.

It’s fair to say that it’s been a dire time for Southampton but at the same time they played a good game against City in the league and were leading for 70 minutes at the Etihad before losing 2-1. From a 9-0 beating to pushing the champions shows improvement and character and the club will want to give Everton a game here.

There will also be motivation for Southampton who are 3 points from safety and that position is currently held by Everton. Though even a win wouldn’t take them past Everton because of the vast goal difference, but it could well give them the kind of impetus that they need right now. However the Saints have picked up just 1 point from their last 15 available,

Everton have a had a miserable week with mounting pressure on Marco Silva. The club lost Andre Gomes to a severe injury against Tottenham. Gomes is set to miss the rest of the season although that has not been confirmed but everyone can be in agreement that it was a horrific freak injury on his ankle.

At least Everton were able to claim a point in the dying minutes of extra time against Tottenham and Cenk Tosun was the hero of the day, scoring a rare goal for the club. Can Everton kick on from that?

Form is poor for the club with just 1 win in their past five and away from home they have the 2nd to worst record in the league and are yet to win a game, losing 4 matches in a row coming into this one. Everton’s last away game was a 3-2 loss at Brighton.

Team News:

Southampton: Ryan Bertrand is currently serving a 3 game suspension and misses this game. Cedric is being tipped to return for this game and Yann Valery could be in contention as his knock is just a minor one

Everton: Andre Gomes will be out for an extended period following his ankle injury, although surgery has gone well. There are no new concerns for the club

Southampton vs Everton Head to Head:

Last season Southampton won this fixture 2-1.

The last 4 meetings has seen both teams to score.

In 15 years Everton have just 1 away win at Southampton which came in 2015.

Southampton vs Everton Prediction:

History does not look good for an Everton win and with their away record being so poor this doesn’t bode at all well for the club. But the players are sure to be fired up for this game, partly for Silva and partly for Gomes and we expect Everton to give everything in this game. Southampton have been poor with only the odd flashes of a team looking for survival. This is a massive marker for Everton who are in 17th and if they lose these type of games this could well be a very long and frustrating season for them. However there is just something so fragile about Everton away from home, and that is why we will back Southampton for the win or draw despite Everton having the better team on paper.
