Southampton vs Burnley: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Saturday 15th February 2020
Kick off at 12:30pm GMT
Venue: St Mary's Stadium

Match Preview:

Southampton come into this game in 13th place with 31 points and the club will feel they need a few more wins, but with the amount of games left to play they should be feeling safe from relegation given that they are 7 points clear of the drop zone.

Form is not great as they have lost two of their last 3 games but a win at St Mary's could see the club move up a couple of places. Their last game saw them lose 4-0 at Liverpool but most people were in agreement that they didn’t deserve to lose by that score line and had played some good football.

Whilst the Saints do have the worst home record in the league they have picked up 7 points from their last 15 and recent form overall has improved.

Burnley are 11th but have the same points as Southampton and are only in front on goal difference. Sean Dyche’s team have gone their last 3 games unbeaten and their last result ended in a 0-0 draw at home to Arsenal. On the road they have lost 3 of their last five games but they did win their last away game beating Manchester United 2-0, which was probably their most impressive result of their season.

Team News:

Southampton: James Ward-Prowse did have a knee injury but he should have recovered for this game.

Burnley: Matthew Lowton will be assessed after his knee injury.

Southampton vs Burnley Prediction:

This should be quite a close game but we are going to back the home side to win this. Traditionally Burnley have not travelled well to this ground. We shouldn’t read into it too much that the Saints have such a poor home record because they have been improving and they have the players to hurt Burnley in Danny Ings and Shane Long and if they stick to their game plan they should be able to make life very difficult for Burnley and of course they will have the motivation to go past the visitors who are likely to try and park the bus. What better way to do that being the home team?
