Sheffield Utd vs West Ham: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Sunday 22nd November 2020
Kick off at 2pm GMT
Venue: Bramall Lane

Match Preview:

Sheffield United come into this fixture in bottom place and that will feel like devastating news to any fan who saw the club do so well last season, but the harsh fact is that the Blades still have no wins after 8 games.

United’s last game ended in a 4-1 defeat at Chelsea although they had taken the lead in that match they were simply overpowered and once the Blues had gone 2-1 up they duly collapsed. Football is a game of confidence and Chris Wilder’s team are severely lacking it. Perhaps the good news though was the international break where the team could just take a moment to go back to the drawing board and work out on the training pitch what has gone wrong this season.

The Blades have lost 3 in a row coming into this one and at home have lost 3 and drawn one. Their only point so far came at home against Fulham in a game that ended 1-1.

West Ham’s last game before the international break was against Fulham and the Hammers made heavy weather of the encounter before winning 1-0. David Moyes side have now climbed up to 12th place and a win at the weekend should see them secure a top 10 place for now.

While the Hammers have dropped some points drawing games they have only lost once in their last five and on form they would be in 8th place. West Ham did lose their last game away from home although that was against Liverpool in a match that ended 2-1.

Team News:

Sheffield United: Rhian Brewster is carrying a knock but should be fine to be included in the squad. John Egan suffered a head injury last week on international duty and therefore will be assessed for this match. Ryan Bertrand will face a test on his hamstring and Enda Stevens will also be assessed with a knee problem.

West Ham: There is no update on Michail Antonio’s hamstring and the player could return for this fixture, but remains a slight doubt, there is sure to be a late decision on him. Mark Noble had a rib injury before the break and could return. Andriy Yarmolenko is ruled out due to Covid-19.

Sheffield Utd vs West Ham Head to Head:

Last season Sheffield United won this fixture 1-0.

The clubs have only played each other 5 times in the last 15 years and West Ham have only claimed one victory and none away from home.

In the league there is a 75% chance to see under 2.5 goals.

Sheffield Utd vs West Ham Prediction:

West Ham have been brilliant at playing the bigger teams and usually show up for the trickiest and toughest of fixtures, the problem is, this match isn’t one of them.

These are the type of games where West Ham’s character will be truly tested and there should be no doubt Moyes has the better team of the two. And yet West Ham have never been a strong away side and we believe that the break that has just gone is the tonic that Sheffield United needed. Make no mistake this will be an open market and an open game, but we should think about backing the home side to get something out of this game.
