Sheffield Utd vs Tottenham: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Sunday 17th January 2021
Kick off at 2pm GMT
Venue: Bramall Lane

Match Preview:

Sheffield United finally won their first game of the season and it only took the Blades 18 games to do so. In midweek they beat Newcastle and it would have been a huge shot in the arm for Chris Wilder’s side. The league win followed victory in the FA Cup third round and all of a sudden from a team who went six months without a win they have won two games in a row.

This match at the weekend is a different proposition though as they face a top six side and one that really needs the win. For Sheffield United they are still bottom of the league of course but are now 9 points from safety and just three behind 19th placed West Bromwich Albion.

Tottenham would have been very disappointed in midweek after drawing at home to Fulham. Tottenham took the lead in the game but Fulham fought back well and that was yet another 2 points dropped at home for Jose Mourinho’s side.

Though Tottenham have gone their last 3 games unbeaten form hasn’t been good for a side that have the title as an objective and they have picked up 5 points from their last 15. The club are in sixth place with 30 points and are six points behind the leaders Manchester United so despite a few bumps in the road the club still has a chance to fight for the title.

Away from home they have won 50% of their games and have only lost once in their last five. Spurs are not goal shy on the road either and have scored 16 goals so far meaning that they are netting on average 2 goals per game.

Team News:

Sheffield United: George Baldock has missed the last 2 games but for unknown reasons so remains a doubt for this one. Oliver McBurnie is only 50/50 for the game after his ongoing knock and he will be assessed. Jack Robinson is being pencilled in to return after his knock. Enda Stevens has missed the last 2 games for unknown reasons and remains a doubt.

Tottenham: The only concern for Tottenham is Giovani Lo Celso who has a muscle injury and looks very likely to miss this game.

Sheffield Utd vs Tottenham Head to Head:

Last season Sheffield United won this fixture 3-1.

Tottenham haven’t beaten Sheffield United away in the league since 1975.

The last 3 games in a row have seen both teams to score.

Sheffield Utd vs Tottenham Prediction:

Tottenham have quality players but have looked fragile at times this season and are lacking the killer instinct to go on a competitive run. One can only presume that after another disappointing result that Mourinho will remind his players of their duties. The Harry Kane/Heung-Min Son deadly duo of goals has cooled a bit and it will be interesting to see how deep Tottenham will dig to get the win at the weekend.

Sheffield United will come into this match with some confidence and they have a fantastic history at home against the London team, and combine that with the fact that most of Sheffield Utd's losses are by a single goal, we will back them with a +1 asian handicap.

Sheffield Utd vs Tottenham Betting Tips:
