Norwich vs Watford: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Friday 8th November 2019
Kick off at 8pm GMT
Venue: Carrow Road

Match Preview:

Friday night football returns to the Premier League where we will see what could be an interesting bottom of the table clash between Norwich and Watford.

Norwich are in 19th place and two points in front of Watford so this match will really feel like a classic six-pointer. If Southampton draw or lose at the weekend it would ensure that if Norwich win they would climb out of the bottom three. However form will have to drastically change given that the club have won just twice this season and from their last 15 points have gained just 1, which was a draw against Bournemouth.

Last weekend was a fairly routine defeat away to Brighton, which ended 2-0. If the club are to improve they will need to shore up their defence, which has shipped 26 goals so far, only Southampton with 27 have conceded more. Norwich will try their 3rd attempt at winning at Carrow Road given their last two both ended in defeat since their shock win over champions Man City. One defeat was against Manchester United, which still felt disappointing given how average the Red Devils have been this season. The other was poor losing to Aston Villa 5-1.

Watford are bottom of the league and still searching for their first win in 11 games. They have fallen six points behind safety and look doomed. However they do have time on their hands with not even a third of the season played but with the way they have started the season it isn’t boding well for the Hornets.

Their last game ended in a 2-1 loss at home to Chelsea, which was probably expected but that defeat ended a 3 game unbeaten streak, albeit one that was full of draws. The club have conceded just 3 goals in their past four games and we say just because that isn’t a bad figure for a team who are bottom.

Away from home the club have won just 2 points all season and concede on average just over 2 goals per game, this is a damning fact. Can it all change on Friday night?

Team News:

Norwich: Mario Vrancic has been pencilled in to return for this game after a lack of match fitness but his chances remain at 50/50. He is the only latest doubt for the club who will be missing a further four players through long term injuries

Watford: Etienne Capoue has had many delays to his comeback from a back injury but is being tipped to play some part in this game. Craig Cathcart will be assessed after a minor knock. Tom Cleverley looks set to miss another game with his heel injury

Norwich vs Watford Head to Head:

The last time the teams played at Carrow Road was in 2016 when Norwich won 4-2.

Watford have not beaten Norwich away from home since 2010.

The three games played at Norwich have all seen over 2.5 goals.

Norwich vs Watford Prediction:

Both sides have shown small glimpses of good football but have been poor this season which obviously reflects their positions. Norwich have been really untrustworthy and suffered some very heavy defeats. This match could be very close, then again if Norwich can score early they could comfortably win this against a side lacking more confidence. Watford have really missed Troy Deeney’s presence, possibly more in the dressing room than on the pitch, however form is with Watford, just. So we're going to back the away side to take something from this game as their recent matches have been more competitive than Norwich's even if they haven't been converting into wins.
