Norwich vs Bournemouth: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Saturday 18th January 2020
Kick off at 3pm GMT
Venue: Carrow Road

Match Preview:

Norwich look like they are facing relegation. The club are in bottom place but recovery looks bleak as they are now 8 points from safety. There is of course still time to bounce back, one only has to look at Watford, but they did it with a managerial change, have Norwich left it too late?

The Canaries certainly have an uphill task and have won just 2 points from their last 15. Their last match ended in a 4-0 loss at Manchester United and home form has seen the club win just two of their games, and they are on average conceding over 2 goals per game. They have drawn their last two home games and whilst results have not been going their way they were still impressive in drawing with both Tottenham and Arsenal in recent months.

Bournemouth are in 19th and one place above Norwich so this match will be massively significant for the league. They could move 9 points clear of Norwich. Eddie Howe’s team have been in very poor form losing 4 of their last five games and that includes losing their last 3 in a row.

Last weekend they lost 3-0 at home to Watford and the club have not scored a goal since Boxing Day, and have conceded 7 goals in their last two games. On the road they have lost 7 of their 11 games with 4 defeats in their last five. Eddie Howe is really struggling at the moment, surely the players haven't lost faith in him and started underperforming in order to get a change of manager after the Premier League stability he has brought the team over the years.

Team News:

Norwich: Grant Hanley is being tipped to recover from his muscle injury and could be selected but will face a late test. Teemu Pukki had a minor hamstring injury but he should be fine to return for this match.

Bournemouth: Chris Mepham could miss the next 3 months due to a knee injury. Aaron Ramsdale is being tipped to be fine for this match after a hamstring injury, which is thought to be minor. Junior Stanislas is ruled out with a calf injury.

Norwich vs Bournemouth Head to Head:

The clubs have not met here since 2015 when Norwich won 3-1.

Earlier in the season in the reverse fixture the clubs played out a 0-0 draw.

There is a 70% chance based on recent fixtures that both teams will score.

Norwich vs Bournemouth Prediction:

This match may not gather much attention in Europe but in England it could be one of the matches of the weekend, not so much on a technical level but to see clearer the bottom three and the impact of it. A Norwich win could go a long way and we are going to back them to take something from this game.

Bournemouth have been poor lately, very poor, but what is worrying for the club is that they have one of the longest injury lists in the league, and it seems to get added on by another player each week. It’s no coincidence that as their players drop like flies to the injury table they have been falling down the Premier League table. Bournemouth have been conceding a lot of goals lately and Norwich are yet to keep a clean sheet at Carrow Road, therefore we also see both teams getting on the scoresheet.
