Newcastle vs West Ham: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Sunday 5th July 2020
Kick off at 2:15pm BST
Venue: St. James' Park

Match Preview:

Newcastle keep moving up the table and are now in 13th place after remaining unbeaten during the restart. The club have just beaten Bournemouth 4-1 away from home which was impressive given the distance involved for the Magpies to travel back and forth.

Steve Bruce’s side are a team with a good frame of mind, they are full of goals at the moment and confidence picking up 7 points from their last 9. With a win here that could see the club be right in the mix for a top half finish.

At home Newcastle have only lost 3 games but have almost drawn 50%, indeed they have drawn 3 of their last four games here. One key problem has been not scoring enough goals at home, presently it is just 16 so far.

West Ham had begun the restart in nightmare fashion and were looking to be relegated and go out with a whimper. However they put in a great swashbuckling display to beat London rivals Chelsea 3-2 at home.

The win is more than huge for the Hammers and gives them a little breathing space as we go into the 33rd games of the season. David Moyes team have now climbed up to 16th place disposing Watford and have 30 points. They are far from out of the woods though and just one loss away from possibly being dragged back down to the edge of relegation.

The problem for West Ham is their away form where they have lost 10 games from 16. They have only scored 12 goals this season on the road and have lost their last five in a row, their last away result ended in a 2-0 loss at Tottenham.

Team News:

Newcastle: Joelinton is a doubt with a calf injury and will be assessed. Jamaal Lascelles has a nasty knock and is 50/50 to make this game. Sean Longstaff looks like he will be ruled out after suffering a hamstring injury in the Magpies last game. Javier Manquillo has a muscle injury and will face a test before the game.

West Ham: Felipe Anderson has a muscle injury and is a doubt for this game. There is hope that Sebastien Haller will be back after his hip injury, he has returned to training and will be assessed. Arthur Masuaku has recovered from his ankle injury and could be included in the squad. Mark Noble should be back after missing the Chelsea game with a hamstring injury.

Newcastle vs West Ham Head to Head:

Earlier in the season in the reverse fixture Newcastle won 3-2.

Last season West Ham won this fixture 3-0.

There is a 60% chance to see over 2.5 goals.

Newcastle vs West Ham Prediction:

This is a game where you need to check the final line ups. Newcastle especially could be missing the likes of Joelinto and Sean Longstaff two game changers, and that could affect the game. West Ham will be hoping that Haller can come back and be raring to go. The win over Chelsea would have put a good mood into the Hammers and they will want to take that and get a positive result here just like they did last season. Another win is so vital for Moyes’ team. Newcastle are in better form, but it is seeing if these injuries are as serious as they could be, and they could well have a next to near full squad. We are expecting a very good game of football with goals, as both teams come into this one with confidence.
