Newcastle vs Norwich: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Saturday 1st February 2020
Kick off at 3pm GMT
Venue: St. James' Park

Match Preview:

Newcastle have reached the 30 point marker and being 7 points from the bottom three the club will feel they will be safe this season. Manager Steve Bruce will be taking nothing for granted though and this match at home to the bottom club feels like the perfect opportunity for the club to start confirming their Premier League status.

The Magpies didn’t win their last league game but it would have felt like it after they came back against Everton to draw 2-2, after being 2-0 down in the 94th minute. It was an unbelieable comeback and should have given the club a spring in their step coming into this game. However their FA Cup match ended 0-0 at home to Oxford United and Bruce played a strong team.

The Magpies have gone their last 3 games undefeated although two of those were draws.

Norwich have played some good football this season, lest we forget they beat Manchester City, but they look doomed at the moment. Not only are they bottom of the league but they have fallen six points behind. The Canaries have just 1 win in their last five, although their last game, which was a defeat against Tottenham showed a lot of promise and the club can certainly fight when they want to.

Team News:

Newcastle: Andy Carroll won’t return until mid February. Paul Dummett has sadly been ruled out for the rest of the season with his tendon injury. Dwight Gayle is ruled out, Jonjo Shelvey is out with his hamstring. Jetro Willems has been ruled out for the rest of the season with his knee injury

Norwich: Emiliano Buendia is hopeful to return for this game after his thigh injury. Ben Godfrey is suspended for 3 games and misses this match

Newcastle vs Norwich Head to Head:

The teams have not played here since 2016 when Newcastle won a 7 goal thriller 4-3.

The last 5 meetings in a row has a 100% success rate for over 3.5 goals.

Norwich have scored 8 goals past Newcastle in the last 3 meetings.

Newcastle vs Norwich Prediction:

These games have lots of goals, but this match could be a little more cautious. Norwich can’t go gung-ho but Newcastle who will be the favourites to win of course do have injuries piling up. We think both teams to score needs to be taken on, and we will back Newcastle to get a win here but with the draw covered as they aren't the kind of team to comfortably record home wins by large margins. We certainly don't see Newcastle losing this game at St James' but a Newcastle win can never be guaranteed either due to their lack of goal threat, even against struggling Norwich.

Newcastle vs Norwich Betting Tips:

Asian handicap (+0.5 Newcastle) at 1.60

Both teams to score at 1.72

Goal line (Over 2) at 1.55
