Newcastle vs Man City: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Saturday 30th November 2019
Kick off at 12:30pm GMT
Venue: St. James' Park

Match Preview:

The 14th week of the Premier League will kick off on Saturday lunch time when Newcastle host Manchester City.

Newcastle had seemingly turned a corner after their slow start in recent weeks and went 3 games unbeaten including winning two of those matches before losing at Aston Villa on Monday night by 2-0. The club are 14th though and do have a 5 point safety net from the bottom three, though now Steve Bruce will be coming up against Pep Guardiola and Manchester City, the champions.

The Magpies have hardly been amongst the best teams in the league but they do boast a decent home record where they remain undefeated in 5 games have lost just once at St James' all season. They have only conceded 4 goals at home this season and only Leicester can boast a better record with 3.

Manchester City had a massive game last weekend when they took on the most in form team in the league in Chelsea. Once City had gone a goal down it seemed as if they were heading for their 4th defeat of the season. But City dug deep and arguably played like true champions for the first time this season to come back and win the match 2-1.

The club did follow that result up with a disappointing 1-1 home draw in the Champions League against Shakhtar Donetsk. Although to be fair, City had already qualified for the knock out rounds. Form in the league is good with 4 wins from their past five the only points dropped in that time was their 3-1 loss away to Liverpool, which could so easily have swung the other way had it not been for poor VAR decisions once more.

On the road City have been less impressive and whilst picking up 12 points from 18 would be very good for most teams it doesn’t quite cut it for Guardiola’s team. City have lost 50% of their recent away games too but with 16 goals scored they hold the 3rd best record behind Chelsea and Leicester.

Team News:

Newcastle: The Magpies have no new fresh injury concerns coming into this match

Manchester City: The big blow for City is that Sergio Aguero has picked up a groin injury and is ruled out of this game, he is expected to miss at least 2 weeks. He is City’s only new injury concern

Newcastle vs Man City Head to Head:

Last season Newcastle won this match 2-1, it was the first time Newcastle had beaten Manchester City at St James’ Park since 2005.

5 from the last 6 meetings has seen both teams to score.

The last 0-0 between the teams took place in 2006.

Newcastle vs Man City Prediction:

Newcastle did upset Manchester City last season but we have to remember the team were headed by Rafael Benitez ex-Liverpool manager and with Liverpool in a brilliant position to win the league last term there was some extra motivation. Otherwise City have a very good record here and whilst Newcastle will have chances, we expect City to win. The odds are not great and for that purpose we will concentrate on goal markets. Both teams to score should be taken on as the win percentage of this happening in previous matches is very high. Also we will back Raheem Sterling who usually scores goals and does well against Newcastle to score again at the weekend.

Newcastle vs Man City Betting Tips:

Both teams to score at 1.91

Anytime goalscorer: Raheem Sterling at 2.00
