Newcastle vs Leicester: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Sunday 3rd January 2021
Kick off at 2:15pm GMT
Venue: St. James' Park

Match Preview:

Newcastle are in 14th place with 19 points and in their last match they got a superb result at home as they drew 0-0 with Liverpool. While that result was very welcome the fact remains that the Magpies have gone their last 4 games without a win.

The Magpies could move up a couple of places with victory over Leicester but they will need to start scoring again and haven’t been able to find the net in their last two games. However perhaps Newcastle can be cut some criticism given that their last 2 matches have been against Manchester City and Liverpool.

At home there is a rosier picture for Steve Bruce’s team and they remain undefeated in their last 3 games, picking up 8 points from their last five games. It feels very normal to think that Newcastle will not be involved in a relegation battle but you get the feeling that the club should be trying to improve now on last season.

Leicester can frustrate because they continue to be utterly brilliant and then average. A draw away to Crystal Palace isn’t the worst result of course and the Foxes achieved that in their last game. However they have dropped 4 points recently and this means that they slipped a little off the pace and are 4 points behind the leaders Liverpool.

The Foxes are in 3rd place though and are unbeaten in their last 3 games but they will have to keep up the pace. The good news for Brendan Rodgers is that his side have performed better away from home gaining 19 of their points their 29 points this way. Leicester have lost just once on the road so far and have won 6 of their 8 games and have the 2nd best away record in the league.

Team News:

Newcastle: Paul Dummett was ill but will be checked. Ryan Fraser is ruled out with a groin injury. Isaac Hayden is suspended after picking up his fifth yellow card of the season. Jamaal Lascelles and Allan Saint-Maximin are ruled out with Covid-19.

Leicester: Cengiz Under will face a late test after recovering from his hamstring. James Maddison could also return from his knee injury.

Newcastle vs Leicester Head to Head:

Last season Leicester won this fixture 3-0.

Leicester have won 3 of the last 4 league meetings.

Newcastle have failed to win at home to Leicester since 2014.

Newcastle vs Leicester Prediction:

We expect to see an open game but will back the Foxes to get the win. Leicester has a good record over Newcastle and have even made life for them difficult at home. Leicester have started the season so well but it is very easy to be 2nd or 3rd one week and near the top 10 the next and Rodgers and his team will understand this.

Newcastle have impressed at times this season and we expect them to score and have good opportunities so we will also back both clubs to get on the score sheet. Whilst it may sound obvious we will back Jamie Vardy to score again he just looks very confident this season and is probably on a mission to finish the season as highest goalscorer.

Newcastle vs Leicester Betting Tips:

Leicester to beat Newcastle at 1.62

Anytime goalscorer: Jamie Vardy at 1.72

Both teams to score at 1.80
