Newcastle vs Everton: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Saturday 9th March 2019
Kick off at 3pm GMT
Venue: St. James' Park

Match Preview:

The threat of relegation has hung over Newcastle for most of the season but they have always had that bit of quality to put a few games together and feel safe. The Magpies are 6 points from the bottom three and should be ok this season but they are looking to getting back to winning ways after losing 2-0 at West Ham last weekend.

What Rafa Benitez’s men do have is their recent home record which has been outstanding as they have won their last 4 games in a row. Their last win came against Burnley 2-0. A win for Newcastle could move them up a couple of places and within 3 points of Everton.

Everton will be quite content with themselves after last weekend and getting a 0-0 draw with Liverpool. They helped Manchester City to retain top spot and hamper Liverpool’s chances to win the league for the first time since 1990. They have also gone their last two games without defeat which could be encouraging for a side who have been struggling for form for the past few months in the league.

The Toffeemen have lost 50% of their games away from home but have won 2 of their last 3 on the road. A win would take the club to the 40 point mark and depending on what West Ham do could take them into the top 10.

Team News:

Newcastle: Sean Longstaff suffered a knee injury vs West Ham and it is likely he will miss the rest of the season.

Everton: Leighton Baines is back in training after his back injury but will miss this game. Phil Jagielka remains at 50/50 to play in this game after his knock.

Newcastle vs Everton Head to Head:

Earlier this season the teams drew 1-1.

Everton have won the last two games at Newcastle and the score was the same 1-0.

Newcastle have not beaten Everton home or away since 2014.

4 of the last 5 games have ended in under 2.5 goals.

Newcastle vs Everton Prediction:

The objective for Newcastle has been simple and that has been to turn up for their home games and win. The problem for Everton is that they have struggled to adapt away from home overall this season. Everton are safe but at the same time manager Marco Silva will need a few wins under his belt to convince the owners he is the right man for the job. Perhaps though there is more motivation with Newcastle who won’t feel quite safe yet in the league. There are also unconfirmed reports that Silva is not happy with Richarlison who did not start the Merseyside derby.
